My 1.6 Crystal Xbox came with 5960 already installed, SID4.5 installed dual boot retail with no problems.

My second Crystal Xbox has come with 5693. I whacked my copy of Halo 2 in, but it hasn't updated to 5960 (grrr).

Am I right in thinking I can just replace the contents of C: on the second Xbox with the contents of my E:\Backup from the first Xbox, obtain 5960 that way, and then proceed to use SID to get it dual booting to retail? Just want to know this will work first before I go & make a rather large and expensive paperweight.

I love it when "rookies" are able to pick up the basic idea. Yup. You can go ahead and replace C with E:\Backup. Or, just place your E:\Backup in E:\Backup under your new xbox, then proceed with softmod (just make sure to backup the box's eeprom). That way you don't have to worry about "backing up your backup". Ya dig?

Thanks for the help, I went the route of copying the E:\Backup from the old to the new Xbox, used SID4.5 to do dual retail, told me to switch off. Switched on and pressed A like it asked, but now everytime I boot it to modded dash with power button, the damn clock set screen pops up everytime.

It's done this once on my other Xbox, when I unplugged it for a while. I just powered on via open tray, played around in the dashboard, powered off then switched on via the power button, and it worked fine, but after twenty minutes of fiddling around, will the second Xbox do it? Will it borrocks Sad

Any suggestions?

Your best bet in this case is to experement. Resoftmodding for my friend fixed the same problem. So if you have to, just pop in your softmod game and do it again.

Well I had a thought, and I left this xbox plugged into the mains overnight, thought it might be something to do with how much power was in it might be affecting the clock.

It was restored to stock 5960, and I had another bash, this time using Single Boot option, rather than dual retail. Went through it all, turned off, rebooted, pressed A, it restarted and then once again kept coming to the clock set screen.

The LED is lighted red so the softmod is taking but hold, but for some unknown reason it just refuses to boot the hacked dash (tried Unleash X both times, might try Evox and see if that makes a difference).

Using the exact same SID4.5 installer & Mechassault files as I did with my first three modified boxes (the first two I did with the aid of a friend using SID3 & AID2), but I'm at a loss as to why it's not loading my hacked dashboard.

Any suggestions?

I presume you went ahead and set the clock as it asked and still had the same issue after remodding? What dash are you installing and to where?

I pressed A to set the clock (It wasn't the correct time, would that have made a difference?), and I restored the Xbox to retail before modding it again. Should I try setting it to the correct time & date, and then modding it, then modding over it from a coldboot? Since if I try and boot SID from MA while the LED's red the system just hangs. I've been trying to install Unleash X, and I think to E:\ (think SID4 only supports E anyways)
