Post subject: XBMC as Defulat dash for SID 4.5 using AID 3.0?

Hey yall, I was wondering how to have XBMC as my defult dash for my SID 4.5? I knew how to install XMBC before on 3.1, but with all this backing up stuff with the 4.5 I am really not sure what to do, I would usually install XBMC onto C but I worried to do so.

Any steps for this procedure?

I do have SID 4.5 installed, and I have AID 3.0 on a disc already.

thats a good question.
With SID3.0 it was pretty dam simple as it always always booted your E:\evoxdash.xbe or E:\evox.xbe dashboard so all you had to do was install your hacked dashboard to the E:\ drive.

Not sure about SID 4.5.. Im sure it can be done but you will need confirmation from some of the other guys running this.

Personally im still using SID3 which is reliable enough for me so far without all these extra features.. I only wish i had the time to play with 4.5

anyone else got comments?

Yea if there isn't an easy way to do it then I rather switch back to SID 3.1

I haven't really found much difference from the 3.1 to 4.5 except for all this forced backing up and stuff.

i was testing out sid 4.5 since i modded a few xboxes, and i figured out how to get xbmc as the default dash. make sure you have a build of XBMC ready and also make sure you completely finish off the sid 4.5 install (dual boot=gamesave only, not sure about other options) and install either unleashx or evox as the default dash. personally i used unleashx

1. once the install is finished, turn on the xbox with the eject button to boot up the sid 4.5 menu

2. use the file manager and delete the unleashx or evox dash files that you installed, should be on the E: drive

3. make a temp folder on your pc to store your XBMC build and take out the "default.xbe" and "xboxmediacenter.xml" files and put them into the temp folder. so it should look like this C:\temp\xbmc\ C:\temp\default.xbe and finally C:\temp\xboxmediacenter.xml

4. next you have to edit the xboxmediacenter.xml file with notepad. when you open it up, you want to edit the line that says "<home>-</home>" (should be at the very top) change it to "<home>E:\XBMC\</home>" without the quotes.

5. now rename the default.xbe XBMC executable to evoxdash.xbe

6. finally, with the xbox still at the sid 4.5 menu, ftp over the XBMC folder, the renamed executable (evoxdash.xbe), and the xboxmediacenter.xml to the E: drive of your xbox

it should look like this: E:\xbmc\ E:\evoxdash.xbe and E:\xboxmediacenter.xml

so that should do it, hope it helps

Thanks but wow, that is just too much work to just have XBMC as defult dash. Since there doesm't appear to be an easy way to install, I will just stick with SID 3.1. I never had any problems with it before and installing XBMC was very simple.

i guess i forgot that you can use aid 3.0 to install xbmc Laughing , but if you're like me, i like to have the latest versions of software. i guess the process i posted before can still be used to update xbmc with a newer build though.
