I bought the X3 CE, and performed a pinheader installation on my V1.0 motherboard - meaning i had to soldersuck the LPC.

I installed the pinheader, soldered the d0, LAN & HD led's, plugged everything in (power button board + front panel switch) and i get the deadly FRAG and 2 reboots (i think - the console turns on, then off, then on, then off, then on to show the FRAG)

So i disconnect the front panel switch and the power button board, and leave the X3 chip on its own. Still same frag and 2 reboots. So i pull out the chip altogether out of the pinheader (but leaving the d0 + lan + hd wires soldered and not connected). and guess what.....FRAG + 2 reboots! have i messed my xbox up? I dont really want to desolder the pinheader and try and get the damn thing out. I haven't damaged or shorted any tracks on the back side of the board for the pinheader. theres no damage or shorts around the d0 point either.

Any suggestions at all? I apologise if this is a well known problem but if it is, i cant find any solutions! google finds pages that talk about cockups with flashing. I haven't even got to that point yet because i haven't seen the x3 boot yet.

I had read the first post you created in the VIP section and in thinking about this, I suspect the issue truely stays with the soldering. Something didn't seat right.
I removed the duplicate post.
It just confuses things when two of the same are running for the same guy with the same problem.

Yep thanks very much, i was expecting a mod to delete that one. I only joined yesterday and i posted that post before even scrolling down the forums page.

I thought it'd be the soldering. I'm gonna get hold of a multimeter and do some multimeter tests (found a page on xbox scene i think that shows how). Thought i was a dab hand at soldering but soldering PCBs i etch myself is a little different to soldering a manufactured pcb Shocked

Thanks for the direction though. One question though - doesn't all those reboots and stuff damage the xbox components in any way? (e.g. all that turning on and off cant be good for the HD can it?)

Mine did the same thing when I had the d0 soldered in the wrong hole. Might want to try double checking that.

Hint: Use a magnifying glass and count the holes to get it in the right d0 hole.

As for risk about damaging your xbox because of start up and shut down, I wouldn't worry about it. How many times did you actually turn it on and off anyways. I got my xbox the week it came out and been playing it a bunch till the 360 came out, and my dvd drive is still the old thompson. I replaced the original harddrive for more room, but I still use my original for live.

Thanks for the suggestion but the d0 has been triple checked - it's in the right hole.

I desoldered and resoldered all of the lpc pinheader and still no luck. Puzzling!

Anymore suggestions?

Like you said, i would use a multimeter and physically check each pin for the correct voltage. That will be a dead giveaway if a pin is not getting the correct voltage.

Indeed those ol' V1.0's are a bit twitchy anyway but mine has been abused for years without issues including modding other boxes.
It's a workhorse but I went solderless.
