I just installed a Xenium Ice into my brothers version 1 xbox and it boots to the xenium os 2 with no problems. I was able to recognize the ms dash, but everytime I tried to access my hard drive, or dvd-drive I get a flashing red led and a black screen that says:
Xenium OS Kernal Panic
exception C0000005 (0) Generated at 000FES14 (0003E514)
It then restarts the xbox to the Xenium OS 2.0 Pre-Release.
I am able to access the TSOP to boot to the MS Dash, but I also get an error message when I try to load it. The Xbox frags and I get an error 6 - which from other posts I know means that it is unable to unlock the hard drive. I am completely stuck and need some help. I'm hoping to get this figured out tonight to finish the install.
Thanks!! _________________ Volleyking99

Still not sure what the problem was exactly, but I got it working right. I was using the hard drive off of my old xbox that had all of my saved games and stuff, instead of the hard drive that came with my brothers. For some reason it was conflicting with the eeprom or something. When I reconnected the drive that came with my brothers box....everything worked. It's probably a problem that is pretty rare, but hopefully this will help someone else down the road. Maybe someone else could explain why it happened....I'm not sure. _________________ Volleyking99

Just for other users who also get the Kernel Panic error message with Xenium Ice:
Having searched all over on the Kernel Panic error it seems that this is generally caused due to the system clock being incorrect after a period of no power (i.e. no mains). I’ve no idea why this should happen.
From my Xenium experience I guessed that initially the clock issue can’t be affecting the xbox so access would be available if I could reset the system clock. I discovered from searches that the clock doesn’t use a battery but a capacitor which takes about 3 hours to drain when mains is disconnected (it never drains if you leave the mains connected). I left the box overnight unplugged and voila, I had access the next day for a few minutes. It wasn’t enough time to sort out my issues and I lost access again.
Frustrated by waiting 3 hours each time I searched on anything about where this capacitor is located (there are hundreds on the board). Fortunately a very clever person (Bunnie) had a site describing his amazing work on understanding the xbox internals check this link http://www.xenatera.com/bunnie/proj/anatak/xboxmod.html . I saw him describe the capacitor in question (a 1 Farad 2.5V Aerogel capacitor at location C7G10).
Once I found the capacitor and its solder points on the rear of the board I connected up a switch on two wires to the two solder points to short the capacitor (with the mains unplugged to avoid it getting current of course) and hence reset the system clock. I found this took a few minutes whilst monitoring with a meter but sure enough a few minutes later the xbox allowed me to flash the bios and access the HDD to lock it, format it etc etc. Alternatively you could disconnect the capacitor alltogether to get an instant reset by desoldering it off the board but that's more risky and likely to cause problems.
Once I got a bios in place (X2 4983.67 for instance) and put a autoinstall CD in the drive I was then able to rebuild the new HDD with all the usual apps.
When you first see this problem it looks like a major system fault so hopefully people will find this guide some comfort and assistance.
If I can come up with any ohter solutions to avoiding Kernel Panic Issues, I will make sure to post them.
