Oh man, so here I am, reading and re-reading the tutorial included with SID 4 for upgrading a hdd on a softmod using a chipped Xbox. Copied the backup file and everything in it, sent it to the new HDD. Sucker boots in the chip modded fine. Attempted to change the eeprom, says it took. Rebooted then locked using Configmagic, installed in softmodded box... error 6.
Did it again and same thing, I'm missing somthing but not sure what.
What directory does this eeprom backup have to be in and is there a way to tell if the eeprom update to the chipped box took BEFORE I take it out and install it in the softmod box?
Been back and forth on this but can't get that last step to take.

your gonna have to roll back the softmod to sid 3 as the c drive is a ghost image not the actual C, then you will find that it works.

did u try to reflash the eeprom while the hd was on the softmoded xbox??

or u reflash it using chip xbox???

wel u know that #06 means.. now i dont know on how to make hds via chip xbox BUT

i do know on xboxhdm1.9 hd upgrds...

hellblazer55 is right IF u got ur C from sid4 it wont work cuz its shadow...

so my way... of upgrd hd is : get xboxhdm retail ms dash from pirrup ... and ur eeprom from the xbox retail hd put them all on xboxhdm and burn it .. and u do the process again ...

BUT u know on how to do hd SO MAINLY MB U MOST LIKELY REFLASH UR EEPROM WHILE NOT ON THE RETAIL HD ....

but give it a go retial ms dash files and CORRECT EEPROM THIS TIME n see what happens.

hi sharky,

I just did a softmod hdd upgrade the other night using SID3.. It was so simple man.. SID4 does complicate things when going to upgrade to a new hdd (well especially if your not familiar with it and im not just yet i just havent had the time).

USING SID:
I just did a eeprom backup of the softmod machine i was going to upgrade the hdd in and then i backed up my own eeprom (just in case).

I then install the new hdd into my MODCHIPPED xbox and used aideluxe to format and install everyting including the softmod.. Then i locked the new hdd using the eprrom from the SOFTMODDED machine.

Simple.. Done.. I put the hdd back into the softmodded xbox and my original hdd back in mine.. Done and done.. lol

I used config magic as always.. Thanks to djb/pirrup for the help too..
I think pirrup wrote a tutorial which djb followed and taught me.. lol

l8r guys

See I'm at that point too. I'm glad that Xenium is here to help dudes.. whew. No risk of loosing my hdd to a hotswap.

But that's where I'm getting stuck. I did do the eeprom backup to the pc, then ftp'd back to new hdd for the softmod on the chip machine.
I'm just not sure, what part I'm screwing the pooch when it comes to getting the eeprom over. After I back up using Evox, I find the eeprom, ftp it over (it pulls a lot of other files over too), placed that eeprom on the new hdd, attempted to update my 1.0 (the softmod is a 1.6) and it said update successful. Locked the hdd, installed to the softmod, then got the 6.
Gonna try again later today. If I try to roll back the softmod using sid 3, do I need to uninstall the first softmod completely, putting the box back to retail?

Just double check when you open CONFIG MAGIC that you write down a few of the numbers or remember the first few digits.

That way when you load the other xboxes eeprom it will change and you will definately see it change.. So just double check that..

Let us know how you go.. If you have too much more trouble ill get DJB to reply too.. He helped me muck around this time.

In your post previously you had mentioned preparing the new HDD using auto installer and installing the softmod. I wonder if I'm installing the dashes like I would having a chip, out of habit. That may be the key hobbs! Gonna have to try it and see.
Thanks for the input. I'll do like you said and write down the numbers too.

Whew... finally got the proper eeprom to read on the chipped box.
Xferd the eeprom to the data folder for config magic. It changed the serial number to the softmodded xbox, so I knew I had finally won.
Rebooted, locked drive, tranfered the drive to the softmod and BAMMO!!!! She started running. Now my little dude has a big hard drive for his games. One happy daddy. Thanks for the input ya'll!

I think originally I was pulling the shadow eeprom over, but once I found the original, the upgrade was completed very shortly.
Thanks for the support guys. That's what's kept me here all this time. Very Happy
