Cheers Gus.
Yeah I have the ide cable but |I had the new 'master' set os master on a 2nd cable and the DVD drive as master on a 1st cable. What i'll do now is just use the one cable with the new HD as the master and the DVD drive as the slave on that same cable.

Thanks again,
Vega...........

ur hd and ur cd rom have to be connected using the same ide cable put ur jumper settings on slave for cd rom and ur jumper settings on master for ur hd .. so the ide shoud have 3 availbe connections 1 on each end and 1 on middle connect hd and cd rom on the same cable and then from there the other end to motherboard ..

( by then u shold alrdy have the settings on boot order to read cd rom 1st then ide hd .. laterz

Sorry Gus.
what I mean was I have two IDE cables, my PC runs 3 HardDrives and one DVD writer, but in order for me to create this XBox HardDrive I took just about everything out IDE wise and have just the one IDE cable, with the hardrive attached as Master and the DVD drive attacjed to that same cable as Slave.
The Linux DVD boots fine, it runs perfect, the problem lies in when it is attempting to d=create a FatX partition table. It falls over at that point, then asks me to reboot and try again (which I have done, to no avail).
Has this problem occured before ? Should I make a post just for that particular problem in case someone else has expierienced that same problem ?

Cheers,
Vega...

Nope, still no go. I unzipped that zip file again and started from there. The only difference I can see from my experience and the tutorial is that my eeprom.bin file is located in the E:\backup_linux\eeprom.bin instead of the location mentioned in the tutorial.

So...any more ideas anyone ? It still keeps falling over as it creates the fatx partition. Sad

thanks for all your suggestions though.

Hi.
I used Nero to burn the DVD as an ISO image.
I have messed with the XBMC XML file in order for the XBox to play my media files but thats just about it. I got a lot of the programs from an AID disc a friend sent me. It has a bunch of Emus, DVD2XBox, a whole lot of skins, some dashboards...the usual stuff.
I replaced a HDD (3rd) to my PC as a slave since I gave up on this and have the DVD writer as master on the second ribbon/cable. but it will not read it. Before I started this exercise it would read all my drfives, on cable 1 I have a master drive which ash my O/S and email, a 2nd slave drive where I keep my files. On the second cable I have my DVD writer as the master and then the 3rd drive for Video files, but now WinXP wont recognise it. I then slotted in another HDD ( I have quite a few old ones sitting around) and it did not recognise that either. The ribbon/cable is completly brand new so I don't think the problem lies there. I shall take this HDD to work tomorrow and see if I can do anything with it there.

Thanks again for your help, I may bite the bullet and get a new HD tomorrow and try that.

Here we go again.
In light of this new info, IE none of the drives I had sitting around at home working, I have brought a new 300 Maxtor (which I currently have in use with my PC at the moment) which i shall install as my new C drive for my PC, but before I do so...

Shall I use this new drive as my C drive for the PC, take out the current master drive of my PC, a Maxtor 200Gb drive, format it then try to install the linux DVD for use with my XBox ? I would rather take this step because I think a 300GB drive for the XBox is a bit excessive.

Once I have taken out the 200Gb drive from my PC should i format it as NTSF or FAT32 format, or shall I let the Linux DVD take care of that for me.

Any tips ?

dont worry about ur game saves and ur stuff we well ftp later...

i spoke to nknave and he mentioned there might be a problem upgradin hd with xbox that r alrdy softmoded..

then take out the disc re boot ur pc PRESS F2 change boot order to cd-rom first then hd . save settings POWER IT OFF unplug it .... NOW USE THE IDE CABLE THAT HAS 2 connectors besides the other end that goes to motherboard PUT UR HD ON 1 OF THEM MIDDLE OR TOP i do mine at middle then ur dvd rom on top CHECK the jumper settings on hd and dvdrom dvd rom is SLAVE hd is MASTER TAKE OUT UR PC HD and put it somewhr safe .. PLUG PC BCAK TURN IT ON and put the disc on the the cd rom POWER IT OFF AND TURN IT ON and let it begain....

I THINK UR HAVIN THIS PROBLEM DUE TO THE SOFTMOD and u should try it as retail as possible IF U FELLOW THE STEPS I MENTIONED u shouldnt have a problem... laterz

Cheers Gus.

What I was asking was whether or not I should format the 200GB drive as FAT32 or NTFS file format before making it a HD drive ?
Since the 2 HDD drives I tried previously are now knackered. I suspect this because slotting them in any PC as a slave and opening Windows explorer to view them and then not finding any trace of their existence. This worries me because I am starting to think that attempting to installing the Linux DVD is rendering the HDD useless.

so here is what i'll do now, I wont format the drive, i'll create a new ISO image just using the backed up C drive from the XBox, not E drive and go about throwing that on the 200Gb drive and if that works then I can FTP all the other files from my PC.

Gonna be another long w/e............

Cheers.......

i stil suggest on xboxhdm on c put retail files .. its on pirrups signiture JUST TO BE ON THE SAFE SIDE.. once u put ur C as retail then put ur eeprom THEN BURN THE DISC and make the xbox hd if it works then u should load up ur new hd in no time.. once we do that then we can ftp ur oem retail hd files to ur pc then 2 ur new hd..

EDIT: this isnt a hotswap tut its a way of upgrdain the hd...

how hard is it to just put xboxhdm C on retail and eeprom and burn it..
