Try burning it at a lower speed ie. 2x.. That may help _________________ XBOX v1.6:

First off most cdr will not work....I typically use cdrw or dvd+r but there have been certain drives where it jsut will not work...you did not say if you had a softmod or hardmod so im going to guess you have a modchip...if you have a modchip it would be nice to know what type of modchip you are using, what bios you are running, what dashboard, etc....then we could better answer your questions.....if it is a modchip you can download aid 2.11 and ftp in the files that are needed or borrow a friends box and swap out the dvd drives temporarily so you can install aid and get moving...that is what i had to do recently....give us some more info and we will get your rolling...later. _________________ Xbox V1.6

My bios says "(256)4034 retail (or elitex)
dashboard evolutionX V+3935
and I have a xiso image of xmbc already compiled. I go to nero and select dvd and try to burn image but it says I can only burn it onto a cdr.....is there a reason or a way to burn it to dvd+R?
I already have xbmc install by using ftp but I am trying to burn it to dvd+r to see if the box will recognize the file...

ok ok I am really sorry for making a post and filling it with messages from myself when I havent tried everything yet.....I just got my drive to recognize and boot up xbmc by using nero to burn a image that I made with xiso and burnt it at 1x to a memorex dvd+r.. thank you everybody for posting replies so fast.
I guess now I should ask if I'm going to replace stock drive with a 160 gig do I need the exact same evolutionx dashboard for the boot up disk yiu need to burn? I think I'll be ok until I get to editing ini files or what have you...I am going to need to read alittle more before I attempt to replace the drive....

I just read that guide and it sounds great. However I have just transferred the Contents of the C & E drives from my XBox to the folder it instructs you to but having just opened the folders on my PC theer is nothing showing, is that right ? Are these files in some way hidden on a windows explorer window ?
Any advice apreciated
Cheers.........

Oh yeah, I did place the eeprom.bin file from the XBox into the eeprom folder in the linux folder.
I have found the files now... they somehow managed to find their way into another folder but I have ssorted that out now and created the linux.iso image file, cut it to DVD and with a blank master drive in my PC it boots the DVD and runs the program, however it fails when it attempts to make a FatX partition after this step "Press 1 (Build a New Xbox HD from Scratch) and hit enter".
I have tried this on 3 seperate drives, A samsung, a western Digital and a Seagete drive. I'm not sure why it falls over, does anyone have any advice for this. Does the drive have to be a specific file system, like NTFS or Fat32 ? I formatted one drive with windows but still no joy.
Again any advice is greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Vega....

Ahhh.... well the CD/DVD drive is on master for one cable and the Blank HDD is on master for the other cable, should they both be on the same cable for this to work ?
As for the softmod well my XBox is softmodded but i'm following the instructions to the letter, I copied over the C and E drive to my PC as well as the eeprom file which I placed in the eeprom folder. The linux disc boots perfectly so not sure where the problem lies.
As for the HDD, yeah, I am just testing with some spare drives I have hangingh around, once I know its a sucess i'll grab hold of a bigger HDD.

I just wanted to give a shout out to gus738 for giving the link to the hd upgrade for xbox. Out of all the guides I've read this one is by far the best one and easiest one to use...it worked perfect and I appreciate him giving his time and knowledge on the question I originally posted.........Thank god theres people like gus738 out there who aren't all high and mighty on themselves and take time to help people who aren't quite at the skill level for modding as others are...
Thanks again gus738
