I hooked up the new hard drive to the xbox. I used the jumper so that it was on cable select like the original xbox hard drive was. (I also tried it without a jumper.)
I turned on the machine and I get the red and green flashing light with an error 6 Call Microsoft cusomer support.
What did I do wrong? I followed the instructions to a T.
Please say I don't have to do the hotswap. I tried reading the tutorial and didn't understand any of it.
Thanks for the help.

error 6 - kernel - Cannot unlock HDD.
This means you locked that hdd with the WRONG eeprom serial, please unlock with the disc you locked it with, and make a new xboxhm disc with your proper eeprom (real one).
this should solve the problem.

6 - kernel - Cannot unlock HDD It means you are trying to boot up the xbox with an harddisk that is locked in combination with ANOTHER motherboard than you are using it with right now.
Was this hdd on another box or was it brand spanking new?
How did the eeprom part go? Flawlessly?

It will now search for the eeprom on the CD and will automatically lock the hard drive.

I backed the EEPROM up with configmagic and transfered by C and E to my computer. I made the ISo disc. It worked fine. It said the hard drive was locked. The hard drive was brand new.

I got it working finally. I had to use EVOX to back up the EEPROM instead of Configmagic. Made a new disc and now it works.
