Posted: Wed Oct 19, 2005 2:26 am Post subject: Not able to play retail games anymore but can from HDD
Hi everyone ... am new here so if this has come up before please forgive me.
I have recently softmoded my xbox with Mechassult.
Everything was going really well and was able to copy games down to my HDD and play them from there. FTP'd them to my PC and created discs and was able to play them from the discs as well. I then updated my dashboard to Avalaunch and then did a couple of updates of the software.
Since then I am unable to play games from the copies that I made and if I hire a retail game it hangs when trying to load the game. But it I try my own retail games that I have they work no problems.
I am still able to play the games that I copied before updating the software. I have also put in a new 120g HDD and was all working.
I redid the partitions and everything with the original HDD which still only had Evox on it but am still unable to play the retail games that I have hired where I could before.
I did unlock the HDD too so that I could get the High Def settings turned on (as I have a high def plasma). I also had to change a setting so that the EEPROM could be updated, and I thought this might have been the problem so that's why I went back and redid the partition and copied over my original EEPROM.
I am assuming that I can still download games and FTP them to my xbox so that should be OK but would be nice to be able to hire some games that I can't find so that I can keep playing them.
I have an xbox V1.1 with Thompson DVD. I know that people have had problems with the DVD's and my Xbox is over 12 months old but wasn't playing it very much so wouldn't think this has suddenly decided it doesn't want to play anymore ... but of course I could be wrong.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean by the word hire? You pay these games to work for you? haha but seriously.... just clear that word up then we might be able to help ya out....I think I have an idea of what might have happened but just want you to clarify that word real quick before I say anything....later. _________________ Xbox V1.6

Delete e:\cache should work then, hire = rent. _________________

What I mean by hire is rent. Go to the video store and rent the game.
Same people in OZ say hire instead of rent

Thanks for you help. Deleting files from E:/cache has done the trick. Was scared I had stuffed my xbox.
