I have just softmoded my XBox using LLtools V1.75 and Splinter Cell. (BTW the "Classic" vesion of this game *DOES* work!)

It appears to be fine and backups are read and play without problems.

If I insert a DVD. it asks for the DVD kit to be installed, so obviously the softmod hasnt affected this side of things.

I have already downloaded AID V2.11, which is a 661MB ISO, which I burned to CDR using NERO and "burn image". What is weird with this file, is if I load it into ISOBuster, I expected it to examine its contents, but all it comes back with is track one and iso. ie no file details. (Would this indicate a duff image?

Anyway, I expected to just insert the disc into the XBox and be presented with a menu of choices of apps to install. That however doesnt happen - and the modded menu appears with or without the disc inserted. Have I done something wrong? Should I be able to read the ISO image?

All I want to do is install the ability to play DVDs and Divx. I know that is supposed to be on the disc, so really stuck on how to take this forward.

Sorry, if I am asking a dumb question. I have scoured the forums all over the place - including the AID site - and I really cant fathom what the hell I should now be doing.

Any help appreciated

Try burning it to a DVD-R or CD RW. It worked for me.

OK, will burn to DVDR (which I was about to do) - but I still dont understand why the ISO cannot be read by ISObuster. Any idea why? Is this how it should be?

And if the drive works with DVDR and not CDR, then I will be happy but also miffed as I was hoping to use my DiVx collection and SVCDs!

Weird!

Yes the DVDR worked. (Many thanks for the suggetion!)

So now I get the menu up and all the install options.

Ive just installed Xbox Media Centre and expected on reboot to recognise and play a DVD. When it booted, I was told my xbox needed to be connected to a DVD playback device (I assume it means the normal playback kit?)

Is this right or have I missed something?

Am currently instally all the emulators ATM Wink

XBMC doesn't play dvd's, least the older oens don't. i heard something about the newer one haveing the ability turned on, but it may just use the M$ dvd player, which would be why its asking you for the palyback kit. i persoanlly use the DVD-X2 Dongle Free DVD player app

OK - Ive answered my own question!

I hadnt realised you needed to select the app from the tools menu in the new dashboard! It does indeed play DVDs - but it is convoluted in that you need to select MBC, then the drive, the VIDEO_TS, then the first IFO. It takes a while. Not the best method in the world!

So will this DVD-X2 Dongle Free DVD player app load a DVD without playing about - or do you still have to select it first?

Cheers

PS this is great fun - dunno why it took me so long to take the plunge! Very Happy

Yeh, I know what you mean. However the console is my kids, so I really dont want them going into secret menus and messing things up!

On another topic - and again I have searched without finding a definitive answer......... emulation roms....

I have just burnt a disc containing loads of N64 roms. Inserting into the Xbox, nothing happens. I have installed *all* the emulators from the AID disc. I thought it may be a case of going into the apps or games menu and selecting the emulator, but they dont appear to be there.

Ive just noticed another thread which talks about using craxtion and creating a munu driven disc. I'm working through this ATM, but one thing concerns me here. Does it copy the rom onto the HD or does it play from the DVD? Im concerned about HD space, since the machine only has the original 8Gig drive.

Strangely, I installed Craxtion onto one of my machines and I just get an exception error and it closes without loading. Seems fine on the other 2 PCs Ive put it on. Any idea what may be causing this?

The ROMS I have got for the N64 are all labelled .USA is that normal?

Cheers

Les
