Hi, I'm going to soft mod my X-Box (it's a 1.4 version I believe, based on serial number).... however, being the paranoid sort, I'd like to keep the original drive intact and unchanged. Is this possible (without having access to a modchip box)?
If not, is if possible to retreive the HDD eeprom data before making any changes to the HDD, as with that information I believe it's possible to recover an X-Box (makes sense to get it in case the HDD dies normally really).
Advice/ideas greatly appreciated,

you have to atleast softmod it to copy the eeprom, but you can easily restore it to stock by formatting it and installing M$ dash back to C:

So there's no way of getting the eeprom data off at the point of having loaded the savegame hack, but before actually modifying the HDD. My concern is trashing the HDD without having retreived the eeprom data at all, at which point would even a modchip save the box?

Hi,
I have softmodded 3 xbox's in the last couple of weeks - all different versions with no problems at all using SC and SID/AID.
All I suggest is that you follow the SID /AID tutorials on here - if in doubt ask and someone will help you out.
I read tons of posts and also posted various questions before I attempted my first softmod.
You will find everyone here is nice and friendly !!
One point - You MUST Remember to BACK UP your m$ dash when you load up the Softmod installer - It is the top option on the menu (I think !)- Very important if you ever need to restore to factory condition !!
