i was wondering if it is possible to play backups (of that games that i "own") on xbox live i currently have a softmodded xbox that can play the games but always prompts me to runt eh netowrk trouble shooter when i use burned games but my actualy games work fine (halo2 etc)

it is possible. It is also possible (and likely) that you will get banned from XBLive.
if you "own" the game USE IT, instead of getting banned, is that hard? if of course you have a downlaoded version or copied version there are free alternatives like Xbox connect and Xlink

There are any number of ways in which they can/have looked for this sort of thing.
Among others -
1) Does the box appear to be modded in any way - are the files on the C drive in order (checksums, etc), how about the E drive? Does it appear to have an F or G (def. modded then).
2) Does the drive key match the one used previously (when you change drives the key changes).
3) Is the game running off of D? If not it's modded/copied.
4) you get the point - just don't do it....
I feel for you becuase I hate using my original discs to play on Live which is why I play on Xlink. If the original's get scratched and ruined (which is inevitable) it really sucks. Having said that - MS doesn't give a shit so just either suffer through it or play on Xlink or something.
