Hi. I am new so don't bite please!
I have downloaded and created AID 2.0 disk using DVD decrypter. I created a DVD-R using 1x speed and verify checked.
My XBOX -- it has error 16, does not boot to DVD. Warm or cold boot, still get error 16. What gives?
Any and all hints would be appreciated.

TIA,
fw_man

What DVD drive you you have in your XBOX, and what brand and type of media are you using? For instalce, I have a Phillips DVD in mine, untweaked, and I use Maxell DVD-R media.

Yea, you didn't even mention the type of mod.

You can't just pop in the disc in an unmodded machine (based on your lack of info, thats what I assume happened.)

If you haven't put SID3 on your gamesaves and since you can't boot from disc, you are going to have to chip it.

Pirrup love's his hotswap, its a good technique, but I recommend modchips.

However, you give more info, we can help more.

Its alright to be new...but realize if you were....you would want as much information as possible.

Take a look at our signautres for example and create one yourself so you don't have to keep saying it.

Pirrup and shortacid, ya'll are gonna make me ill. Razz
fw_man, the only one that gets bit here appears to be me, but I ask for it... hehehe.
As much as it hurts, I must agree with the other two hoodlums that the more info you tell us regarding your machine and what you are trying to do, the better advice we can give and the less frustration you will feel.
And if I keep talking like this, the more like Yoda I will sound.
Error 16 is a dash issue, fix it with Aid you can.
Stop typing, I should.
Change forums, I will.
Create chaos, I shall.
Stop talking like this, I can't.

Thank you all for your advice!
Let see. I am a newbie. Actually I am a comp. engineer, designer. I design IO chips. So, have a decent amount if understanding of what's may be happening inside XBOX.
The XBOX is a hand-me-down to my son as "broken". So, I am trying to fix it.
I do not know much of the box history, but I believe it has not been touched with soft or hard mods. Definitely no hard mods. Case has never been opened.
I have just opened the case. It is Thompson DVD drive, and WD hard drive. DVD media I used was Sony DVD-RW(1x) and then later Bencole Platinum Series DVD-R(4x). The last one is POS.
I also just tried Memorex DVD+R 8x. Made by Ritek. Still same error 16.

I am not trying to mod this box, just bring it alive.

TIA,
fw_man

Guys,
Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Please, let me know what other things I can try.
Is there a way to know that DVD drive is working OK?
Is there a way to format hard drive on a PC to get rid of Error 16?
Is there a way to boot XBOX off DVD with disconnected hard drive?

When I opened the system up, I also took the cover off DVD drive. Pickup LED does move and light up as the motor turns on. So, it is not obviously dead. But, not sure that it is fully funcional also.

TIA for all your help.

I actually had a customers system today giving me error 16.

I assumed he tried a softmod and failed, but when I installed a chip to reformat the HD, I was getting boot sector errors.

I got an installer to boot, but when it attemptd to reformat the HD it chocked after C partition.

I installed a spare stock HD, all is well now.

You could very well have a bum drive.
