Ok time for around of more stupid questions. The only ftping I have done in the past was over the internet. I under stand the whole filling out the ip, port, user/pass thing in my ftp program of choice. Now the question is can I just unconnect the cable from my cable modem and plug it into my Xbox and set up the ip and such in the ftp program and connect? I tried it but I’m thinking I may need the network card to get it to work, or some other thing. I know it’s not my Xbox cuss a friend put a movie on it after he soft modded it. But now I cant get a hold of him cuss he went away for the summer lol. I have tried unplugging the cord from my cable modem and putting it into the back of my Xbox but when I go into the system settings it says TYPE (nothing), IP(nothing), line status (No Link!) but below in the ip area it says the ip address. Lol so its probably just some noobish thing I’m doing but I thought I would ask the experts before I go out and buy some thing lol.

to ftp into your xbox you need to make your ip on the xbox similar to the one on your pc.
for me my ip on my pc is 192.168.1.10
so i put my xbox ip to 192.168.1.40
make sure the subnet masks are the same for both as well
and it should work perfectly

ok so if the xbox gos on thissite could answear this question ofr me i will be able to put it away and know that i need a network card. if i just unplug the cordfrom my cable modem and plug that end into my xbox and the other end into the ethernet card on the back of my comp cna i ftp files to my xbox (assumeing i set up the proper p anssuch). im assumeing no i will need a netowrk card cuss i keep getting no link! in the system settings on my xbox. but i will post the question here to make sure i cant as apposed to me thinking i just cant. this way i will know for sure if its the connection or some settings i dont have.

hi,
If you are CONNECTING DIRECTLY FROM THE PC TO YOUR XBOX you must use a crossover cable.. The cable your using from the networkcard on the back of your computer to your cable modem is a standard NETWORK CABLE (patch lead and not a cross over)..
It sounds to me like you are definately connecting directly so you need a crossover cable., Then all should be fine mate..
If you have a router with a spare port, or a hub with a spare port then you could use a standard Network Cable (RJ45 cable) to connect from your pc --- >> HUB/ROUTER -->>> xbox.. Then it will work..
sounds like he's taking the cable thats going from modem to the pc, unplugging it, and stickign it into the xbox (modem to xbox). both the xbox and the pc need an internet conenction at the same time. your pc either needs 2 network cards (one conenction to the modem and the other to the xbox) or you need a router( modem to the router, and then both the pc and the xbox hooked up to the router) but as i typed that it made me wonder. i suppose you could have just one network card in the pc and a crossover cable between the xbox and the pc and ftp between them? that kinda sounds like what your describing but i have never tried/read about doing that :/
