Hey, up until now I've been using AID to install my dashes, and am pretty clueless about editing *xml files or determining default dashboards. But I've recently downloaded a newer version of XBMC, and I don't know how to go about installing it. Do I simply copy the files over to the drive I want? Do I need to rename *xbe files or anything?
Also, I've never managed to get the auto-update to work from any of the dashboards, or the download save games feature in UnleashX.

Nah you shouldn't, I didn't rename a thing. and as for editing the xml just use a notepad on the computer and re-ftp it. Its just like an ini file with more formatting.
Just do a copy and past job and if that doesn't work, try renaming.
I think the xbe is a named default so... _________________ XBOX v1.6

Haha, whoops, I'm not by the PC, so I just left it up with auto-reload on so I can glance at it now and then.
Thanks for the help, does it matter if I already have a dash on that drive?

Yea, the XBMC doesn't like other dashes to start up for some reason, so You need to get a dashboard loader of some sort. I use XBMC as my main dash and from there, I use Evox, UnleashX, Ava, NeoDash, etc...(i gotta lot of em, but onthe E drive) and run them all as applications.
WIth xmbc really, its an awesome dash, especilly the new ones. If yo udon't have the new 5.2.2005 XBMC you can download it from our VIP downloads section (5 bucks trial, 10 y3ar) or go to xbins, once the message from the bot shows up with the ftp info, use the second FTP site for the new XBMC, they have a compiled version already there _________________ XBOX v1.6

Ah okay, I have no idea how to handle multiple dashes at once. Normally XBMC is default on E (I use the box more for streaming video from the network than playing games ), and I'd load up Avalaunch from that to use the ftp boost mode when transferring games with Qwix.
But I have to use AID (normally from the HD) to boot other dashes, how do I make shortcuts?
I haven't really found any reasons to not use XBMC though, it's a great dash.

If you have BoxExplorer or something like that you can just select them, but I installed the XBMC to the C: and my backup dashes to E:.
You don't need the aid disc, thats too much WORK! lo l
Just select the XBE file of the dash you want and it will load, i have my dashes set up in the APPS menu on the XBMC
I always use my XBMC for the Shoutcast radio, media player, haven't screwed with the whole sharing thing, I tried samba and ccrx or whatever and just gave up in 5 mins b/c I was studying for finals.
But now, my dad's new bitch, lol, my dad is a man whore (he managed to use online dating services and went out with almost 25 women while engaged, talk about balls, especially with HIS now ex-fiancee.) LOL, anyways I got 4 really nice computers from her with 4 monitors. She works for an MRI company that just redid there sysetm, I could have had at least 7 computer and monitors but I didn't want to be greedy. SO I JUST CHOSE THE BEST
2 x IBM Pentium 4 2.2 ghz 256mb ram 1.)40 gb 2.)80 gb.
1 x IBM Pentium 4 1.6 ghz (Not a tower but a real desktop!???) 128 30gb
1 x Compaq Ipaq cheaper minitower celeron design (No idea on specs just got it)
4 x Varying Viewsonic Monitors.
So I plan to use 1 as a linux to stream, 1 as XBOX machine and server (possibly with SDK), 1 as a I don't know, I got a my laptop as well, I don't know what I can use the other 2 for, lol maybe parts.
But I don't have enough power cables to run them all, COMPUSA WANTS 20 bucks for 1 DAMN cord, or online for 1.99, i just haven't ordered them yet.
Yes yes, I know bad Ed, I am rambling. Well anyways select the xbe like stated, hit me back if you still need help _________________ XBOX v1.6

Hmm, I copied the XBMC files into the E directory, but UnleashX still boots. Tried AIDing the old version to C, but UnleashX is still default. How do I change the default dash? I'm not quite sure what to rename.
Hmm, this is a tad annoying! >_< Just replaced the HD today, I'd rather be getting on with using it than messing about with dashes!
And nice about the PCs, we recently managed to walk away with 2 12" Dell Latitudes, a wireless router and a bunch of PCMIA cards from my mum's old job.
Okay, I had XBMC on my E from AID101, and copied the files I downloaded of a newer XBMC onto the E drive. I seem to have a new logo, and a new skin, and it works pretty well. (Other than that I haven't really noticed any differences, am I supposed to have?)
However, Project Mayhem II skin Programs section doesn't have anything highlighted, and I can't do anything but push back. And the Xlink section keeps crashing.
Should I try reinstalling the whole thing? I have installed dash over dash using AID and I swear there are loads of files on these drives I don't really need, how would I go about clearing them all out and just having good old new XBMC?
Hate to sound like a complete XB newb, but hey, I guess I'm in the right forum. ^_^;
