This is my first time modding the xbox. I think my soldering job went very well....I have had experience with r/c cars before. Anyways...everything was working perfectly fine until I tried flashing x3 bios version 3108. Now it frags. If I press both the power and eject buttons I go to the regular FlashBios 3.0.1
I flashed it with a cdrw. Anyone have any ideas? Was I using the wrong bios to flash? I'm not sure about the bank settings that I set it up at. I put #1 nd 2 to the right/on position. Need help!

Flashing the X3 can be a very hit or miss experience. If you flashed a 1mb bios to the wrong bank, then that could be your issue. Yes, it would frag. The fact that you can boot to the backup bank tells me your install is fine.
What you need to do now is wipe out the flash that you did wrong, which is someone convoluted.
What I would do is flash the M8 bios to one of your 256k banks. The M8 bios will allow you to boot your Xbox.
Then, you can install evolution X to your HD and FTP the X3_Erase program to your HD. Then, using file explorer select the X3_erase and run the xbe. That will clear out the bad flash.
You should have another 1mb bios bank to try though, just make sure you have your switch right. Also, make sure you have a good working bios.

I went ahead and tried the M8 bios to a smaller bank and still no luck. Any other bios out there that I can try? Also, seeing as how the xbox is reading all the cd's, I'm guessing there's no problem in the burning itself. Maybe the files I'm getting are bad. Not sure. I want to get this thing running already. Any other/more ideas?

Have you tried flashing your chip via HTTP?
Take the disk out of the picture completely. Connect your Xbox to your network. If you have a router, just use a standard network cable and connect to the router. At the FlashBios menu select flash via HTTP or whatever it says.
I posted a quick reference on it in this forum.
If you are certain you are putting your switch in the correct position and you have good bios files, then I am not sure what is causing your flash to fail. I have heard of bad chips causing the flash to fail three quarters of the way through. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

I had the exact same problems when I flashed via HTTP.
I could use flashbios no problem but the X Bios wouldn't work.
I re-read the Team Executer forums and found that the pin 13 and 14 are especially crucial for the x3. I pulled it apart and found the they could've been soldered better, I did it in a relatively cold room and the solder didn't flow like I would have liked it to.
Then it worked.
Also, just to ask a dumb question, you are using the 1.6 version of those bios' correct _________________ XBOX v1.6

Thanks for your replys.
I've tried to connect to http with a crossover and I had no luck. When I start the bios flash through network, it goes to initializing the network and that's where it gets stuck in the flashbios. I don't know which address people mention that I'm supposed to be seeing on the screen. However, after initializing, it gets a failed connection and it says its reverting back to 192.168.0.99 ...is this the correct address? Either way I tried it but it didn't work. I'm gonna take it apart again and check both of those solder points. Keep the suggestions coming please =)

I dont know what network you would see...I have a router so mine is different, but I would take the advice given about the solder on the 13 and 14 pins...
Darn, I keep forgetting about that.
Also though, I have definitely read some chip problems though that have caused stuff like this to happen. So if you are certain your install is good and your bios flashes are good, but they just arent' taking, I would contact the chip supplier and see if they could take a look at your chip for you via RMA.
Then, they can either clear it or replace it.
We need some quick reference tutorials on recovering mod chips.. I can do the SmartXX V2 and Xenium Ice... we need someone to do the LT OPX and the X3 chip.. I'll look into it.

Thanks for the quick reply once again...
I just finished checking those two points, added a little solder but it still frags. I'm getting to the point where I just want to take off the chip, send it back and buy a different one. Can you help me out with that? Seeing as how you hate Xecuter...and frankly I don't blame you. What other chip do you recommend?

Could you give a detailed listing of what your system is, it would help a bunch. Give me an idea of what to look for. _________________ XBOX v1.6

It's a v1.6 with the samsung disc drive, I have the Xecuter3 chip soldered on and the only bios currently working is the backup one. FlashBios 3.0.1 Stock HDD.

I have a love-hate relationship with TeamXecuter and their products...lol.
I hate them because of the convoluted install/flashing crap that they make newer modders go through. If you are more seasoned, it's a little less easy to make mistakes, but, there are also factors that come into play that even screw with the most seasoned modders.
If you would like, I could install an X3 chip for you no problems. The fact that you have already installed the X3 pin header leaves me thinking you should stick with that chip.
Now, I have never tried sliding a different chip onto the X3 pin header. But, the Xenium Ice on the 1.6 doesn't use the #4 pin so it would probably be okay on that pin header even though some of the other pins after #12 wont even be used.
I have never tried it, but logically it should work. The SmartXX product used the #4 pin so there would have to be an extra pin installed for that to work.
But, like I said, if you want, you can send to me and I'll pop on a new X3 for you. It will be the newer X3 CE. I also stock X3 control panels if you were going to go that route.
Email me at sales@themodgod.com if you are interested and we can go over the return shipping cost. I will not charge you any labor on the chip install as long as I dont have to do anything to the pin header.
If you have a larger HD that you want me to configure, there may be a charge for that depending on the options you choose. If you just want the basic apps and emulators...there is no charge. But I have some other things I can do to your HD and the most it would cost $20.00

UPDATE!
Well it's been a while...but I fixed it...kinda.
I found out I was using the wrong bios...these v1.6 xboxs are a little moody. I had to use the plus version of the bios and it worked like a charm. I was able to FTP and add the dashboard to test it out and everything worked. I received the HDD in the mail and went through the process of formatting, etc. I got stuck, I didn't know what to do with the new HDD. I couldn't FTP into it and the boot discs weren't working. A friend of a friend took the HD and installed all the APPs to it. I put it in the box and it's working great. I changed my mind on these chips....they actually are excellent once you get them running. Thanks guys.
