Posted: Sun Apr 03, 2005 8:43 am Post subject: Switching HD from old modded Xbox to new one... HELP!
I have a HD totally full and fully modded and tweeked dash and all my games that was in my old xbox, when I sold it the guy who bought it had a bigger drive he wanted to use, so I kept mine.
Since then I bought a new xbox, modded it with nearly same chip (Smart-XX 1.6) other was a 1.1. The old drive is unlocked, I chipped the new xbox and put my old drive in and it wont work.
I assume its a locking/PW thing but I dont know, I have put this drive in my sons modded 1.1 and it worked just fine. What gives? anyone got a clue?

As it turns out the old drive is Locked.. I have the file with the PW etc on a backup on my pc but I have no idea how to recover it.
Any clues? When I try to unlock it in SmartXX setup it says:
Drive is locked (Unlocking not possible)
at this point I only want to get at the games on it now, I have installed the other HD fine with AID. There are 80 gb of games I'd rather not lose on the old drive.

If you got the pasword you can unlock it with a pc prgram called atapwd.exe

Ok I installed a floppy in my PC for this ATAPWD proggy. Do I have to do all the steps in this:

jiggysmb has unlocked locked hds with software. I believe he has a method that may help you if this doesn't end up working for you.
I think he said he did it by having a friend who worked for Best buy use the HD manufactures diagnostic CD. It was called something similar to "removing security feature", but I can't remember word for word how it went.
Feel free to PM him as I am sure he wouldn't mind helping you if he can, but I know he has posted that he found a way to unlock locked HDs via software.
