I have a friends xbox ver. 1.2-1.5, not sure what version it is but the K# in the system info shows 5051. I installed the Spiderchip and the cromwell spiderchip bios came up to flash. I flashed the X2 4983 and got fraged after that. I coulda sworn that bios was ok for boxes up to 1.5 though im probably wrong. If the box happened to be a 1.5 what bios should I have used? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

the x2 4983 bios is good for versions 1.0-1.5 ,

try reflashing the chip with same bios but from a different source

bobrownik,

Thanks for the info. Just to make sure that it wasnt a bad flash I put the chip in my old 1.0 box and the chip ran the X2 bios and booted onto my Evox dash so it seems the flash was ok. I cant reflash the Spiderchip with another bios because I dont have a programmer and I dont know of any other way to reflash the chip. If you have any ideas about that please post them. I think i'll try the M8plus to flash another chip in the meantime. I hope that one works. Thanks again and thanks for anyone who has any ideas about reflashing the Spiderchip with the X2.

OK, I think I figured out the problem. As I was trying to load the bios on the new Spiderchip I just couldnt get the Cromwell bios to load and I would eventually get FRAGed. I've been reading online that there was problems with the pogo pins on the chip but I never looked to deep into it. Anyway after looking at the contacts closely on the board it didnt seem to be pressing down toward the far side of the chip (side without the screw) so I presed down that side with my finger, turned on the xbox and presto! I put the already flashed Spiderchip with the X2 bios back into the box, did the same thing and pressed down the chip with the finger and it booted the X2 bios! Now all I gotta do is figure out a way to keep my finger on the chip and still be able to close the box back up and actually leave the house without the damn thing FRAGing Very Happy hehe.

i read a post a bout that ...there was something about one pin that doesnt let the chip to sit properly but that pin can be removed or shaved down for some xbox versions ,

ask themodgod about it , i think he might know exactly which pin that is ......

for now ....align the chip exactly right , then press on it pretty hard ,

while you are holding it down tighten the screw that holds it in place ,

tighten the screw tight but dont strip it ,

that should work for a while

After checking more into that pin that was supposed to be giving the Spiderchip problems, I inspected the chip and the the pin seemed to be already removed. After a few frustration hours of trying to align the Spiderchip with the X2 bios loaded I gave up and tried to install the last Spiderchip I had without any bios installed except the factory Cromwell bios. Screwed it in and the Cromwell bios came up no problem. Proceeded to load the Evox M8plus (for 1.5 and below) and the sucker booted immediately. Loaded the Xbox-HQ Auto Installer disk without a hitch. Everything works fine! What the F_ _K? I dunno if I just got lucky aligning the chip or it had something to do with the bios' but it would seem that it may have something to do with both. Anyhow if I can ever figure out how to reflash that Spiderchip I flashed earlier that wouldnt work properly I could try and reflash it with the M8plus and that should clear things up. If anyone knows how to reflash the Spiderchip without using a programmer please post. I read on another forum that someone used a 1.0 xbox to reflash the chip but he didnt give any details. I've tried to reflash using the Evox dash option and I also tried the Auto Installers option and neither worked. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks!

OK!!! I finally figured out how to reflash the Spiderchip that I had previously installed with the X2 bios and was able to put in the M8plus for xboxs 1.0-1.5 and the bios booted no problems right off the bat!!! It would seem the Spiderchip doesnt like the X2 for xbox versions 1.2 thru 1.5 but I dont have a clue why. Modgod, any thoughts about this?

Anyway in case anyone was wondering how to reflash their Spiderchip after they already flashed over the Cromwell bios heres some info i've gathered.

Use Eurasia Pro Generic Flash 1.2
www.eurasia.nu (I think its also on this site as well)

The zip file contains an ISO file for the app and a folder with with a file named raincoat.cfg, bios.txt, and a 50MB dummy file. You will need to edit the cfg file (open the file with a text editor like notebook) and relpace all the text with this:

Flash = 0xdab0,"Winbond W49V002A",0x40000;
Flash = 0xbf61,"SST 49LF020",0x40000;
Flash = 0xbf52,"SST 49LF020A",0x40000;

(Thanks to HackDaBox for thsi info!)
save changes and make a bios CD-RW with these files as well as the bios of your choice (M8plus in my case).

After you load up the Eurasia disk it will automatically eject the tray where you can swap in the bios disk you made, it will automatically load and when it auto shuts down the next time you turn on the xbox it will have the new bios. Note: if the chip is not booting on your current 1.2-1.5 you will need an earlier version to load up the chip (1.0 in my case).
Hope this helps anyone who had as much headaches as I did with these dang Spiderchips. Thanks to all for your help!

Now I know why I don't bother installing Spiderchips..lol.

They are coming out with a programmer though, I am sure that will make life a little easier for Spiderchip owners...

good going though. That looks like a great quick reference for our tutorial section.

I would have to say there was a problem with the bios or size of bios you were using then. The chip really doesn't care what bios you load, only th size of it. What matters is does the Xbox run with the bios you selected. IE: trying to use a M8_16 on a 1.1 machine and so on.

You have to understand that there are so many X2 4983 bios' out there from so many different sources and some of them are corrupt and have issues. Basically, your mod chip is nothing more than memory. It doesn't care what you put on it as long as it fits.

Hey Modgod,

Thanks for your advice. Been a while since i've been back to the forums but its always nice to see you here helping everyone (including me) out as usual.
The weird part about that Spiderchip that had the X2 bios on it ran fine on my xbox 1.0 so the im sure the bios was alright plus it was the same one I used on my Xenium which I am currently using.
The weird part is that I could get the chip to boot the X2 bios occassionally on the 2 boxes (1.2-1.5, not exactly sure what versions they were, both had the K# at 5101) if I pressed down one end of the chip and made the pogo pins touch the board evenly so I thought it was an alignment problem but with the M8plus bios installed the chip appeared to have the exact same alignment but booted no problem. This might sound really stupid but is it possible that different bios would change the characteristics of the way the chip sends information to the xbox to boot the bios?
Anyhow i'll make a new topic soon with the info on reflashing the Spiderchip along with other info i've gathered over the months since the one I wrote earlier was a bit scatterbrained cause I was in a rush.
Anyway thanks again Modgod!

No problem bud..

Even though it sounds impossible, one thing I have learned however is that Xbox modding is not an exact science at all. I have seen very quirky things before such as this and as hard I try to logically think of the impossibilities, I am learning to accept what I see as being unexplained..lol.

So many times I have had an installer disk and had to identical machines. Both 1.6 machines with Samsungs in them, both with the exact same manufacture date, both bought at the exact same store, and both flashed with the exact same bios. However, one would read my DVD+R installer and one would not... it would only take my DVD-R installer...so go figure.

Sometimes I sit an rack my brains trying to trouble shoot something and all I have to do is think illogically and bam...it's fixed. It's truly hard to say why your spider chip would not run on the X2 bios. Logically, I say that it shouldn't matter.... but experience tells me that anything is possible.

Keep on modding bud! Later bro.
