Hi,
I am new at this and I was wondering if anyone knows how to transfer roms to the xbox just using a dvd.

You could make an Xiso and burn it, then copy the roms from the dvd to whatever folders you want with boxplorer

I just use Avalaunch to do that.
Avalaunch has a great feature to transfer files from your DVD drive to any folder you wish.
I am wondering if DVD2Xbox Media Copier may be a good choice too. I know it has a browse HD function and I thought it also had copy and maybe even move/paste commands.
Anyone have any thoughts on that. I personally never tried, will have to take a look. Avalaunch works for sure. That's how I transferred about 2000 roms once from a DVD-R that someone gave me. Back before I had a burner/reader on my PC that would handle -R's.

Personally i would use BOXExplorer too... Its pretty simple to highlight all the files on your DVDROM and then paste them wherever you want on your xbox hdd.
