Post subject: Question completing step 4 of softmodding

Here a newbie question:
Even if you think it to simple to say please do. So i can understand the basics.

In the manual of Softmod Installer Deluxe v1.01 is written:

2. Make sure the gamesave is on your unmodded Xbox, then turn it off.

3. Insert Splinter Cell and turn your Xbox on. When you're at the main menu of the game, select "Load Game" and then highlight "Linux". Tress A to boot the Installer.

4. Once the Installer has boot, I strongly suggest to make a backup of your C Drive and maybe your Eeprom as well. Use the "Create C backup" option to backup your C drive. To back up the Eeprom you'll need to use the Evolution X dashboard. The Eeprom backup is stored at C:\Backup (this can't be changed unfortunately) so please remember this.

5. Install the Softmod. Please note this deletes the MS Dash from C Drive, hence why you have been told to use the backup feature.

6. Install what dashboard you wish to use. Unfortunately due to lack of space I can only put Evolution X and UnleashX in this package, I hope that is good enough.

But how can i start the evelution X dashboard? I used the option Install Evox, but how can i start the dashboard before doing the softmod option?

Could somebody help me?
Thanx in advance

hello,

usually if you press the eject button to boot then the softmod option comes up with the mod/m$ restore/backup yada. Then the power button will boot the dash you installed. HOWEVER!! If you have to old version of the SID, then evoX will not install right. you need the new version thats in the downloads!!

I have been working on this also
I finished the softmod then changed the IP address to my network then FTP to the xbox from there I could just copy the EPROM to a floppy.
It was located in the C: Backup

look at HDD Manager if you want to change the hard drive. I am still not sure if I have done it all correct I need to figure out the LIVE part.
this should work if you dont care about Xbox Live
By the way, the readme in the HDD Manager was very useful.

http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-31.html
also this helped for another method. it was worth reading about for HEX editing the Larger Drive.

It's easy... just use your mind, or read this (my reply to another similar topic):
-----------------------------------------------

My suggestion for all: before apply softmod with SID you must backup your Xbox eeprom to your pc, just for security... follow this step:

- start the SID exploit inside your game (i use MA)
- when unleashX dash is loaded connect the Xbox via ftp (192.168.0.2)
- copy in "E:\" the Evox dashboard via ftp (make a dir for this, like "E:\Evox")
- launch the Evox dashboard (the xbe) with the "FILE MANAGER" (on SID menu select "FILE MANAGER" and go to the EvoX dir, click over the xbe)
- when Evox is started go to "SETTING", "BACKUP" and backup your Xbox eeprom and bios
- now copy the folder "E:\Evox\Backup" to your pc via ftp (inside this dir you can see the eeprom.bin and the bios.bin)
- restart the Xbox, the game for the exploit and load the SID exploit
- now you can apply softmod with SID (follow DJB instructions for this) and good luck

With the "eeprom.bin" file in your hands you can unlock and lock the Xbox hard disk in your pc, or make a new biggest hard disk with the softmod installed and... the rest is history
