theres no software for xbox that could burn a dvd.

edit: but yes people split the power to add a pc dvd-drive, but the purpose of this is to have a drive that reads more kinds of burned disks

Bah, i could type for ages on this, i'll just give some hints.

Actual Answer: No it won't work right now.

Power Supply: Not really a problem as you could add another PS if necessary just to power another drive. How does the xtender case power all 3 hard drives? Just use that, power supply connector for the all IDE drives in the xbox are the same. IE: CD or Hard Disk.

IDE: As far as I know, there's not way to get two cd drives to work together, it has to be an I/O operation, can't have I/I. (on, on) You'd have to have some special software for it.

Software: Getting a dvd burner to work in an xbox isn't hard at all.... you could run some sort of distro of linux. They self load all drivers, there's no need to install any drivers whatsoever in linux, unlike win 98 where all drivers need to be installed. The problem that arises there, is that you need to be able to allow linux to recognize xbox games, and from there it just seems a clusterfuck.

The only thing I can think of, would have two xbox's side by side, one running linux with an xbox, and the other running the game manager, or ftp or whatnot. What arises there is that it's just as easy at that point to use cbox tool to make an iso of a disk, then burn it with decrypter.

xbox and xbox= 300.00 dvd burner=150 dvd reader=50 + a TON of fabrication and coding to make it work.... or

computer with a dvd burner and dvd reader (which most half nice computers both come equipped with, at least from dell or the sorts with their special offers they always have running -- or they have free shipping, so with your shipping money you could get a burner Smile)

Personally, i think all that needs to be done, is have cbox tool be able to integrate dvd decrypter or some sort of program in, and have it burn it for you, that would be a ton easier.

If there was something obvious i forgot to voice my opinion on, feel free, i may add some stuff later when it comes to mind.

DVD Reader can't recognize XBOX games. The Samsung is pretty damn fast i think, that's about all your going to get, besides i think the network adapter on the xbox is a max of 10,000kbps transfer anyways.

When transfering data from xbox cdrom, to xbox hard drive i usually get 6 megs per second max, so it's probably a 6xish or so. I think the fastest dvd drive out currently is 16x? At that point the transfer of the cdrom has outdone the transfer of the network, thus defeating the reason to upgrade.

Can the xbox's ide channels support more than one IDE device per chain? Is it 2 just like a computer, or is it special and only allow one? Wait.... now that i think of it, i think there's 1 ide chain, with the ide drive in one, and cdrom in other connection. Thus you could probaly run two drives, but you'd be hard driveless.

EDIT: It's 1 chain holding 2 devices -- the cdrom and the hard drive, what I thought probably was the case.
