First of all..my humble respects to all the people that post information here...you guys rule. thanks.
Now...My problem is simple...I took my xbox apart, changed the master locking password using a hotswap and disabled the locking feature. Then erased everything and restored the C and E using a copy of another XBOX's HD that has Evox in it.
I know I screwed up by not installing Evox and backing up the Original HDD password first . But now I can lock, unlock, partition repartition and do anything I want with the HDD but my (UNMODDED) xbox wont unlock it, or if it's unlocked, will give me a dashboard Error even tough the HD has a copy of Evox in it.
By the way. XBOX 1.6, no modchip, no nothing.
My question is: Is there a way to obtain the HDD pwd from the motherboard itself? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I understand Evox calculates the password from inside.. I don't mind soldering or tearing apart the XBOX completely.
Or do I simply have to install a modchip?
Any answers, negative or positive will be appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

Only way I know to go from here is to install a chip, b/c an unmodded xbox has to have the hard drive locked to it's motherboard, like you said, had you written down the hdd key, it would be no problem, but right now, nothing really can be done without a chip. As there is no way to start the machine without the hard drive.
Just making sure, you can't load games still can you? Never tried it, so I dunno really. _________________

I'm trying to load Slayer's Autoinstaller from the boot up cd with the HD unlocked but I get error 7. I'm going to try and put more stuff in it or generate a HDD key from linux, or install games in to see if it works, thanks alot.

You won't be able to boot anything as far as I know, the only thing you could possibly boot is a normal retail game, try that and see. Like I said I doubt it, so if you get an error code, it's to be expected. _________________

I tried an original CD, no luck, tried booting up config magic, evoxNewHDD, and no luck either. I put the HDD back in the pc, booted linux and rebuilt a partition entirely from the Slayer's C/E/F images. If I try to boot with the HD unlocked, I get error 5 (HDD not locked), is there a hot-swap trick for the xbox? I have access to 4 more unmodded and softmodded (working) xboxes which I can take apart. I just want to solve this one problem. Anyone?

just bought the xenium spice. No luck yet... keep having the same code. Trying now to set up the chip on another xbox to see if it loads straight up. Maybe I set it up wrong... dunno, it's working right now on the other xbox but would give me error 5 on the screwed box. I'll let you know
