I would love to know if any one can help
Got Xbox (early xmas gift) V1.6 have added maxtor 120g hd and a spiderchip installed using instructions from their site. loaded a flash bios M8+ but while flashing i got a message PROGRAMMING FAILED. now with the spider chip swithed on i get no screen and cannot eject discs. with spiderchip swithced off i only get Xbox logo screen and service required but i think thats only cause its missing the original hd.
What next ?
Is the chip busted ?

Did you install the chip, BIOS, and dashboard before you put the new HDD in?
Try switching back to the old HDD, and trying again. If it still FRAGs, check all your solder connections and make sure you don't have any splash. If it IS a soldering problem, you'll have to get one of the other guys to help you. I'm no good with that stuff... yet.

Maybe the flash (programming) is failing due to bios size. You need to find out what size bios you need and download the appropriate M8 version. As far as why your xbox is getting error screen is because you have no files on this new HD. It hasn't been configured yet and nothing is installed on it.
You need to get that chip flashed, then you can load the autoinstaller and format the HD, prepare the HD, install MS Dash, install EvoX Dash, install applications, then lock the HD.
You got a little work ahead of you, but you can't conitinue until that chip is flashed.

thanks for the advice
first time i flash to chip said the bios was too big so flashed with a 256k m8+ bios, then the spiderchip froze in the middle of flashing. its a solderless chip also.
i have sent for one more chip ( good that they're cheep) and will try to flash again but do i need to get a different bios. i thought they all worked as long as the size was correct.
the spiderchip is sent with a cromwell bios installed but i think this one is empty now
this chip is cool and looks simple , instalatiion is easy, less than 10 mins.
but the tutorials for flashing it are not extensive with no trouble shooting, if anybodyfinds any sites dedicating a forum to this new chip let me know so i can post my experiences.

Throw the chip in the trash and get a soldered chip. (sorry, i've tried using two chips from them now, and I hate them).

If you still have a problem then buy the external programmer when it comes out as they have no real recovery option, it is their one bi downfall. Also scrape all the connections a little, one of them may be a bad connection due to the laquer, which may cause the bad flash.
