I would like to put a chip in my xbox. I have played an xbox with many games preloaded in the hard drive. I have no idea where to begin. Any help would be useful.

Welcome to the site!! We will be more than glad to help you get going.
First, you need to determine what version your Xbox is. Here is a quick reference on how to do just that. It involves opening your machine, but it's the most sure way to determine your version.
Then, you need to determine what mod chip you want. A lot of people think it's the chip that lets you play backed up games, actually it's the bios that you have to flash to the chip.
All newer chips will allow you to flash them with a bios. Flashing is a word for installing. Basically, the chip has memory on it and you install/flash the bios to the memory. Some chips can hold more memory than others. I recommend a Xenium Ice mod chip for your first chip.
If you think you are going to want to add features down the road like an external LED screen, then you may want to go with a SmartXX or X3. But, for ease of install I really like the Xenium Ice. It's packed with features and it has it's own operating system. It has a built in web server and can be flashed many ways. You can flash it from the xbox dvd rom, you can flash it from the Xbox HD, or you can flash it from a web browser. Very nice.
Once you have the chip flashed, you can use an Autoinstaller to put all of the files you need on your Xbox's HD. You should really upgrade your Hd to at least a 120GB HD. I recommend 200GB.
So, in short you need some basic tools.
Soldering Iron (I recommend 25 watt)
Solder (.022 light duty rosin core) You can get from radio shack.
Desoldering Braid - For slip ups. Allows you to remove solder.
Torx wrench or driver. Size 10, size 20, should do fine.
Electrical Tape
30 AWG wrapping wire (Radio Shack too)
That is all off the top of my head to get your going. We have all the files you need here, but you will have to be a VIP to download the bios' that you need.
There are other ways to obtain the files, but the easiest is right here.
