Can I use round IDE cable in the Xbox?
This for larger HD.

If it has the 4 IDE power port holes then it should work, no harm in giving it a try, I'm still learning but if it doesn't work I think the only thing it would do is not power the HDD so it's not like your box would blow. Good luck.

Thanks,
I've read in some out dated threads that the case would not close. But I find this strange.
So data transfer is no problem. What about heating?
On the pictures this cable looks so small. Distance between the ports looks less also. So I wonder if it is long enough to reach the HD.
@Wes213, could you tell me the size to look for?

You want 40pin IDE and 4 pin Molex for with an XBOX HDD, also be sure that the cable has a minimum transfer rating of 66 but go with a 133 if yu can get it. Gigabyte makes excellent Ehanced IDE cables and their all I use in my Boxs.

Thanks SPPV,
Was already on a hunt on google for the Gigabyte IDE cable. But I only find the motherboards. Could you help me?
Why need 133 if the HD is 100?

Just because its the best available and if you switch out to say a 250GB EIDE Maxtor Diamond or WD Blue Caviar you will have a drive capable of 133
It appears Gigabyte is just seling them with MOBO, perhaps Newegg or NCIX would still have some in stock though. Texas Instruments is another excelent brand (they invented IDE) as is WD and Asus.

How could one tell which speed is the cable.
I see some numbers on the cable, but it doesn't say ATA33, ATA66, ATA100 or ATA133
The Gigabyte cable is blue, is the color the difference?

As far as I know the colour is meaningless. If it doesnt have its rating you can try running the serial code through gogle if it has one. Any IDE cable manufactured in the last 5 years should be 133 since it can support any of the lower ones like 66
