First of all if you have a chip you can just swap the HDD and run AID, if it is a softmod then you can run chimp or the xboxHDM way to upgrade the HDD.

If the xbox is chipped and the bios is flashed you don't even need to have it softmodded. I'm actually surprised it boots up with a softmod and a mod chip installed.
You should uninstall the softmod then use AID to put on your dashboard of choice for mod chipped xboxes.
To confirm you have a mod chip you should open up your xbox and take a picture of the top of the motherboard. _________________

I think i got my word's mixed up. I slightly remember installing the 1 click modchip install on AID but i could be wrong since it was so long ago that i did it. Ive noticed i have SID 5.0 installer and SID5 007 AUF in my game save's if that has anything to do with having my box soft modded.
I still have to pick up some torx drivers to get the box open, so i will post a pic of the chip in a few days.
Thank's to both of you aswell since you cleared some thing's up for me reguarding the different methods.

As mentioned, I'd remove softmod and just install EvoX or XBMC from the AID 4.50 disc. It's just simple thing to do, after you figure out how to do it (winkwink Wes)..
And what I've read, these tutorials in here will guide you thru and provides good answers for mysteries you can conquest in your path to success. Note: Read also other topics to find some answers. I did, and found answers on my EvoX problem.
Questions? Ask away...

I confirmed that my chip does suport hdd swap. So is it really as simple as backing up my stuff swapping hdd's then runing aid like people have said in this thread? Every tutorial ive read talk's about unlocking locking the hdd and formatting the new hdd and all that. All these different tuts drive me crazy haha

Just put in the new hard drive, pop in AID, use xbpartitioner to format the hard drive, and then install your dashboard using the one click install. _________________

No if you do it that way you will want the larger hard drive option.

Thank's guy's you have been really helpful.
I think i fucked up with my hdd. After checking out the xbox hard drive compatibility chart i ordered a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 - 3.5" - 1TB HDD, SATAII, 7200rpm, 32MB Cache (ST31000528AS) that was on the compatibility list.
Will it not work unless i get a sata to ide converter? or have i been looking at outdated info.

Yeah you gotta get a converter and it'll be fine, I run a sata drive in one of my boxes, the converter is like 2 bucks on ebay.

Yeah i ordered 2 of the more popular one's people have had success with.
Hopefully im one of the lucky ones that dont have all them weird problems ive been reading about. Hows your's doing? Have you had a sata in it for a good while?
On another note ive been reading the forums alot around here lately and think i might become a regular.

So I ordered a SATA -> IDE converter from DealExtreme 4 weeks ago, never showed up sent email blah blah... not the point here. Gave up and ordered a Sabrent (Sabrent IDE Ultra ATA-100/133 to Serial ATA (SATA) Port Mini Converter - Model #: SBT-STDB) from TigerDirect. It has a striking resemblance to the DealExtreme one... but i actually received this one, so that made it better, but it is also 4 times the price, and no free shipping... but i received it
So i install it, popped in Slayer 2.7 (I am an old school guy) and worked first shot doing an upgraded HD rebuild. Adaptor had to go on the "Cable Select" setting (2 jumpers needed, only one supplied) I used a 500 GB to start, and a 1TB to finish (Used both for test purposes) FYI i ordered this one first (http://cgi.ebay.ca/IDE-TO-SATA-SERIAL-ATA-BIDIRECTIONAL-CONVERTER-ADAPTER_W0QQitemZ200341052967QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2ea541de27) And it DID NOT work in my xbox (1.0, 1.5 and a 1.6), but did work in a PC.
Hope this helps someone, as i ordered from 3 places, received from 2, and only one worked.
Now i have a question to anyone who is listening. I downloaded AID 4.5, so i could get all the new fancy tools, and i would like to know on a 1TB drive, should i split the 900+ Gb into 2, 450+ drives (F&G) and use 32k clusters, or leave it on 900+ (F) and format with 64K clusters?? Just curious as to what the general consensus is. I read alot about each and not sure which route i should go.
Thanks in advance, and happy freakin holidays!!

Both cluster sizes work well, i like one large partition myself but it works the same the other way around.
