Hiya

yes you can you remove the front of the xbox like so:

Open your xbox, remove the hard drive and DVD drive caddy by removing the 2 torx screws, take a medium size flat head screwdriver and find the gap between the front and the side of the xbox, gently lever it out, it will be tight the first time but is quite durable, also unclip the three clips inside the xbox, one in the center and 2 just above the control ports, unplug the eject board, then unclip it one the faceis removed, de-solder the 2 leds with desolder braid, solder the new ones in (match the flat side of led with the little images on the board) put it all back and your away.

Your best off replacing with the same type led's (3 leg bi/tri colour).

I have them for sale in 2 varieties: blue/red/purple or blue/white/light blue.

Or if you don't want to do it I offer fitting services too, if your in the US then realmccloy also offers fitting service, I am in the UK btw.

If you want to order the led's with a written tutorial then you can buy from my site:

Thanks

DJH

Not to attempt to take from djh's business, but if you're looking to just change the color to red or orange, you can use a BIOS editting tool such as XBTool or EVTool for Evox. There are tools for other BIOSes, but I am unaware of what specifically they are.

You can also switch a few of the yellow wires going into the eject button / power button panel. It's a white boxy thing with 9 yellow wires. Counting them this way:

1 3 5 7 9
2 4 6 8

You'll want to switch the 5 and 6, and switch the 7 and 8 to make the light glow red.

If you want it any other color though (which I do now...) you'll have to go with one of djh's (or similiar merchant) led kits.

Or you can look at the tutorial I posted in the case modding area. It included pictures.

did'nt realise there was a tutorial, all mine are on paper which is kinda useless. Forgot about doing it in the bios, never considered it cos I hate red or yellow led's he he

I was just trying to help out a tad, ok and I was trying to make some money too Razz

I used xbtool to make my led flash the once between all 3 colours, then my pc died and had to wait 3 days before I could upload a new bios. 3 days of my xbox being bloody annoying.

lesson of the day, don't set it to alternate colours Confused

What the-- Did you just change names, DJH? How'd you do that...?

Anyway, nothing wrong with trying to make a little bank. I'm sure your LED installs are much classier than a BIOS edit anyway.

I'm already plotting out my next Xbox mod, and it'll involve plenty of LEDs to be sure. You can bet I'll be looking in your direction for that.

He he, forahobby changed it for me just now

They do look pretty damn good if I may say so myself :p

I also do activity kits for DVD, LAN and HDD activity leds which i reckon are pretty cool looking.

I got a colour lcd screen here the same size as the smartxx ones, if I can find a pinout I wanna try and get it to work, reckon that would look good too (too expensive to stock and sell tho but nice project)

What's a pinout? Also, I've seen lots of boxes with the X logo on the top of the case outlined in lights. How is this done? Is it through a hole cut along the edge of the X, or with a lighting source placed externally (some sort of tube LED?) along the edge of the X?

Also, I have no idea how to solder anything, but I'm determined to do any mods to my Xbox myself. What equipment do I need to get started besides the obvious soldering iron and solder? Do you sell kits of resistors and such also, and detailed instructions on installing LED kits?

Hiya, a pinout is a diagram saying what each connection is on the screen, If I have a pinout for mine and for the smartxx one I get it to work, tho will need a bit more in order to fix the colours, some sort of hardware driver.

Yeh, on crystals they use EL Wire, is basically a lightup tube, they outline the X logo on the inside, does look cool and easy to do.

I know how you mean, always better to do it yourself, what you got is fine, I would advise some torx bits to open your xbox tho, aswell as some desolder braid which comes in real handy.

All my kits are fairly easy to fit and all come with tutorials and resistors (if needed)

Thanks

DJH

I was using the PCB rings to make the LED Rings, they worked out pretty cool but were limited to 8 LED's. The LED rings I sell now have 10 LED's on them.. They are pretty bright. Especially the green ones, see Slamscapers avatar...lol. I did his case mod for him.

I thought a few planes were going to attempt a landing in my backyard after I did his.

The eject LED mod is the easiest mod around. Very simple. My only tip though is to make sure you truly get all of the solder off of the stock LED's because if you don't you will remove the little bit of contact area that you solder the new LED legs to. If that happens, the board is pretty much junk because now you dont have anything to make contact with. I did that once..

You can also put four LED's in but you have to use a dremel or a file to notch out the front cover a little so it closes okay. Very simple to do. I have been selling some of the Eject boards on Ebay, they have been selling pretty good. I guess a lot of people like it. I get some strange requests for colors though....lol.

later all

He he, once my 8 led boards go I will have 16 led ones, being manufactured as we speak.

I had a guy selling eject boards on ebay and he had wrecked 12 of them in that very way, no track left on any of them, I bought them all for £10, fixed them all, and sold them all (as repaired upgrades)

My led mod kits go well on ebay, sold over 100 eject led mod kits now
