Hi
Going to be modding an xbox soon and stumbled across this site. I am wondering if i can network my PC and xbox using a wireless access point connected to the xbox network port and a wireless dongle on the PC. Both would be set to ad-hoc mode.

Uh......... This is how I went wireless with my Xbox and my Xbox360
I was playing around with my Xbox360 that I got last year and I've yet to really play with it online because
1) I dont want to have to drag a wire across my house to use it.
2) I didn't want to spend $100 to use Microsofts wireless adapter.
I was Ebay last year and wanted a solution for printing anywhere in my house so I picked up one of these for $40

From all the reading I've done with the Xbox360 you cant just simply plug in a USB wireless thumbtick because it doesn't have the software loaded so it will not work. Makes sense because the Xbox360 will want to load the drivers for the USB thumbstick and since it doesn't support its not going to work.
Logged into my wireless router and enabled the "wireless Mac address" of the print server
I had the idea of why can't I connect my laptop to the wireless print server and login to it with my Ethernet cable and do some configeration stuff..
Logged in using http://192.168.0.102
Told it to search for my wireless router and saved the SID number
Enabled the IP settings.
Gave it a new IP of 192.168.1.102 since my local network is in that range
Unplugged it and plugged in my Xbox and walla it was connected to Xboxlive. Of course you have to go into system settings and tell it to look for a connection.
So with that in mind I saved 60bucks and Im wireless. Its white too and matches

Yes, bro that will work.
example would be: modem to wireless router (via cat 5 or cross over cable) to XBOX (via cat 5 or cross over cable), then PC to router (via wireless USB connection) will work just fine for FTP and all that good stuff.

Oh, Im sorry. I guess I should "learn to read". I thought you where going to use a USB type of Wireless device on your Xbox and thats what I was rambling on about. I forget the Xbox doesn't have a USB type of plug like the Xbox360.
The reason I was rambling on is the 360 can use a USB plug, but the drivers for the USB device on most of the devices isn't native to the Xbox360 so it doesn't work so I found a Cheap'0 solution, which of course didn't address your answer in the first place.
