Good day, all. In reference to this thread (http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/postt23181.html) where I'm having problems w/my DVD-ROM: I have two more DVD-ROMs to test out, however, in the case that ths is more an issue with the PIC (after spending an afternoon on Google, it seems that's my next logical step if replacement DVD-ROMS also have the same issue).
I did a search through a local company which sells IC's/etc. and when I punched in PIC16 I got a metric buttload of IC's back; The PIC on the motherboard is lableled a PIC16LC (with I think a P05 for a 1.1) based on this document (http://www.xbox-linux.org/wiki/PIC).
Now, with all that said, which IC do I need to purchase?
There's these:
PIC16C711-20/P ACTIVE BAG 1024X14,20MHZ
Minimum Order Quantity: 1 In Stock $3.88 CAD
PIC16C62A/JW ACTIVE BAG 2048X14,20MHZ
Minimum Order Quantity: 1 In Stock $23.99 CAD
PIC16C64A/JW ACTIVE BAG 2048X14,20MHZ
Minimum Order Quantity: 1 In Stock $23.99 CAD
Is it actually any of these, or should I be looking for something else?
Thanks!

You could order a PIC to fix your xbox, but it is not going to be programed. Just a blank rom/ram. Unless you know how to program a microcontroller to replace the one in your box, I would just look for a new motherboard. or...What version xbox do you have? I have a scrap 1.0 that probably has the PIC you are referring to. I will send it free of charge if your in the US. Can you take a picture of it? _________________

Thanks for the replies, all.
I'll rip apart my Xbox once I receive my other modchip, and I'll post which one it is here.

If you look at this (http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/postt12224.html), I had the same problem a long time ago, and my board is stilll sitting there, but now I have hope 'cuz I got a board with a dead nvidea chip(gets hot, I mean very hot and no video output), so I'll post an update if that is exactly whats wrong with it. Done a few builds with AID, 3 diff dvd drives and media, and a few unlocked hd's to no avail. And yes, it will need to be re-programmed with a PIC programmer. Good luck finding someone who has one. I tried forever. And if you actually found the replacement chip you got lucky as well. Mine was discontinued/unavailable at the time I posted.

I'm almost willing to bet that the PIC is the same between all the Xbox versions - I have a v1.4 Xbox here I'm cannibalizing the DVD-ROM out of, and the PIC on it is a PIC16LC63A-64/SO 03092MT (with a Motorola symbol on it).
If yours was a 1.0, I'm willing to bet my 1.1 has the same PIC in it.
Hey, if I find a third Xbox, I can just rip (well, not really rip, more like carefully unsolder, =p) the memory chips off the board and put them on my working Xbox, correct?

Well my full part number is PIC16LC63A-04/SO 0229jf0.
And yes, you can add ram to the extra ram slots on a 1.0-1.5 mobo. _________________

Backing up my current Xbox to put the other DVD-ROM in there (and use AID to put in a 300GB drive and then recover to it), will test it after that. Will know if i need a PIC then.
Guess I'll take a peek around the pawn shops, maybe can find a cheap one.

Just to update this - I don't need the PIC - I pulled the DVDROM (same Samsung 605B was in it, but with a date code in Nov 2003 instead of Nov 2002), threw it in - and it works fine.
Plus: I've put in a 300GB drive to replace the 60GB I had in the Xbox, used AID4.1 to format/install, and everything seems to be working. Going to recover a few things from my backup, but overall I wanted to thank everyone for your input and especially all the tutorials/etc. you have here.
Cheers!
