I have a virgin Xbox, never modded, shows that it's v1.0 and it had MS Dash 5960 before I started. Ran SID 5.01 using Splincer Cell, did eeprom backup/move to E and MS Backup.

Choose dual boot softmod install for hacked dash/softmenu, virtual c+eeprom. evox dash

Everything goes as expected per the video tutorial on SID5. Files copy, the Xbox shuts dow. I remove DVD/turn it back on, and it goes through the final steps. Then it reboots again. And all it does is go straight to MS Dash.

I went back to SID5.01, removed softmod, and tried the entire process again. No luck. I'm not sure what the heck I am doing wrong.

I tried booting with power and eject, and holding eject. Always the same. I noticed that in the final steps it copied everything from e:\backup\ms to the c: drive, and I have no clue why!

If you can retry the soft mod but use the single boot install and see how it gose.

Got it working. Did a few things different this time

1) Booted SID 5.01 and chose "remove softmod " for good measure
2) BOoted SID 5.01 and FTP'd into the xbox
3) Deleted contents of E:\Cache, X:, Y:, and Z:
4) Installed Dual Boot Option (hacked dash/softmod menu)
5) Chose Virtual C+Eeprom
6) Chose UnleashX dashboard

Everything worked and booted up to UnleashX dashboard

Not sure if it's the fact that I cleared the cache folder and drives, or that I chose UnleashX instead of EvoX this time

Now onto AID4.11

Yeah I think its the EvoX option I use SID 5.01 sometimes and the EvoX dash almost never works. Also Unleash is much better than Evox anyways it has the built in file manager and the skins look much better in my opinion.

Unfortuantely, I don't know what ANY of that means Smile All I've been reading on is SID and AID. My goal is to get XBMC running and that will likely be my primary use. But I am sure I will explore other cool capabilities. It's just that all the tutorials/faqs/etc all seem to be pretty out of date. I thInk I'm going to write up my own as I go and post it up. I have a few coworkers interested in softmoding their xbox as well.

Flashing the tsop is a way of putting a chip bios on the xbox mobo, its good for locking in the mod so even if you delete the C drive you can boot the aid disc and get it running again. Wink

Yeah TSOP is the best mod out there other than an actual modchip. You forgot to tell him that if your box is TSOP'ed that it can run an unlocked HDD and its really easy as long as you have minor soldering skills you can also do it with a electro conductive pen used to make traces on the mobo as long as it doesn't have a Sharp TSOP chip those ones have to have a lil wire ran to em to boost the power so it'll work.

I'd like to get the info for reference, but I don't think I'll do it at the current time. I'm the only one messing with my xbox and it's easy enough to NOT format the C: drive. I have a fully backup on my PC, if that were to occur.

I'm just back to my original problem of UnleashXnot booting after SID on my newly setup 160g drive (via xboxhdm). Gave up on it last night, have to play around with it more today.

I went into SID filemanager and ran evoxdash.xbe off E: and it booted to UnleashX, but something is missing that tells the xbox to boot that all the time. Is there an manual way to check on that setting, or do I have to rely on SID?

Might be a moot point. Just realized I should be able to run SID filemanager, launch UnleashX, put in AID, and then use that to install Unleash/XBMC/whatever. I'll try that tonight as well.

Just get a copy of unleash from xbins and hand istall it and rename the xbe to evoxdash.xbe and drop all the files in the root E drive.

Does the UnleashX package have instructions on how to hand install?

Will this all work properly based on the fact that I original ran SID with "Virtual C+Eeprom" ?

It will work with your set up and all you need to do is download it and put the files in the root E and rename the xbe.

It might be in a folder when you get it so just pull the files out and istall them.

Just thought about this. The issue doesn't appear to be with the UnleashX dash, as it loads file when I run SID5.01 and choose the evoxdash.xbe in file manager.

The issues seems to be the portion of the softmod that tells the xbox to boot the dash form E:, instead of C:.

Do you have any other xbe files in the root E?
