That could be, but I thought all you needed to do for a TSOP was solder acouple of points, not solder random wires to the board. _________________

its hard to tell, a lot of older generation mods were quick soldered to the LPC and didnt use pin headers. Until we can see a clear picture its hard to tell

Guys thanks for help but made fatal mistake of leaving off too long now clock needs setting and can't do that because of dash. Obviously not even reading dvd drive as it needs to see clock first. I think my only fix is going to take out HDD and connect to PC to reinstall (Like I know how to do that ?) Anyone know of any other ways - I do not have a switch on my Mod chip.

Tell me if im wrong but this might work.
Get a friend with a modded xbox.
Unlock his hdd with eeprom management from a slayer evo-x cd.
han, place his hdd in your xbox.
Boot with your chip on.
Now the xbox DOES find a dashboard when you boot in original mode and you can set the time in the msdashboard clock settings.
Shut off xbox and remove your friends hdd
PLace his hdd back in his xbox and lock it again
Install your hdd
(clock has been set) So boot up with slayer cd.
Install normally whatever you wanna install
lock hdd
Its worth a shot.

Two things. FIRST from the very low quality picture, it looks like a TSOP with grounded D0, but doesn't look like the D0 at all... Anyways. Yea, the comment above is how you can pass 16, just need to do this EXACTLY!!!!
Boot the xbox with it's error 16, and within the first THREE seconds of it booting! That is critical! Or else it will lock itself again
Then take a modded xbox that you know works, and plug your HDD into his HDD's IDE cable.
Have his Xbox boot AID and do a 1 click install that does not have dual boot!
After it is done, you should be able to then reboot both xboxs, and if I'm right, put them together as they were.
Then see if your XBOX that is supposed to be modded works, if it does, then bam! If not, try doing the unlocking of the hdd again and booting it on your friends Xbox, and make sure his is not trying to open yours with it's lock, that will cause SO many problems.
If the mod works with your HDD in his XBOX, then I have to say, you do not have a modded XBOX, only a TSOP.
READ THIS THROUGH FIRST! AND MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND! Any errors WILL hurt your XBOX! And to make sure, make sure his XBox unlocks HIS HDD not yours, then you can plug yours into his IDE. Please don't be mad if anything goes wrong, like you learn it's only a TSOP to play burned games.

OK Thanks again for everyones help. Still not working again but feeling optimistic that I will get there soon. I have taken another photo of what I beleive to be a mod chip in my XBOX but will wait for the verdict on that one to come back. I do know anyone with an xbox so I cannot try swapping. I have tried hotswap technique which Ruemaster suggested by way of unpluggung PC HDD and plugging in XBOX HDD. Got the PC to boot up the programme (HD recovery I think its called) however when it gave list of options it told me HDD was locked and that certain functions would not be accesable, this included Make an XBOX HD from scratch. Is there any utils out there which will allow me to unlock xbox easily?. Look forward to any help.
I know that again the picture is not perect but its the best my camera seems to be able to take inside the xbox and is better than the original.

I think I have realised my mistake I should have read flaws post more closely. The guie I read to hot swap did not specifiy unplugging the IDE on XBOX during the XBOX cross logo do I assume that if you do not do at this stage the XBOX HD locks up? . If so there might still be a light at the end of the tunnel. With regards to the chip I am guessing with Wes's reaction that this thing is out of the Ark.

The x logo is when your xbox starts looking for the the hard drive so i wold say pulling the ide at any other point wold cause it to lock up on you.

Excellent that would explain why my pc told me it was locked as I pulled it on the error 16 screen . The tool you metioned is the one I have and I have since found a complete video guide on You Tube looks like the only mistakes I kade was the time I pulled the HDD and also not pausing the PC on boot up I guess that probably locks the HDD as well. Pain the ass thing is that it took 30 minutes to set it all up as TV and PC in different rooms- oh well these things where sent to try us.
