Guys
This is probably a really stupid version, but here goes...
I wanted to know the version of an mod free xbox, without undoing the case. I thought the easiest way to do this would be to boot the AID disk, and read the version number from there...
However this didnt work, I thought maybe the drive in the xbox wouldnt read my disk, so I ended up opening the xbox to work out what version the machine was.
While I was in there, I swapped the installed drive with my drive that I know reads DVD-R disks...
But I got the same error message, which is
'Your xbox cant recognize this disk. Make sure its an Xbox game DVD movie or audio CD. Also check to see if the disk is dirty or damaged. Remove th disk to continue.'
So, I'm not thinking that you can not boot the AID disk, without first installing a MOD chip (I never chipped my xbox, it came chipped).
Which left me trying to work out, if the chip comes without a BIOS loaded on to it, what do you boot from to install the BIOS onto a Mod chip... or am I just totally confused here?

What your looking for is a softmod. SID (softmod installer deluxe) comes with the AID disc. Wgat you need to do is either buy an action replay or make your own. Then use that to transfer SID to your xbox. AID should come with a nice SID manual. _________________

As for AID, no Xbox will read DVD+/- R/RW disc's until the Xbox has either been softmodded or had a mod chip installed. It is to do with the Xbox not being able to read unsigned code. Softmodding and chipping allow the box to read all types of media.

I have a Duo x2 Mod chip that I will be installing... Just gotta hope it has a BIOS already installed on it, otherwise again, I will be back pushing s**t up hill...

When your modchip is installed, you'll find you'll be able to read the media and use AID on your Xbox.
