Hey there!
I'm downloading AID 4.01 and 4.02 as well to update 4.01 and I'd like to update my XBox. The thing is I haven't updated my XBox in a while and I'm not sure even whether it's softmodded or chipped... Got UnleashX running, would like to update M$ Dash to fix Dolby 5.1 not working issue. Is there any precautions I'd need to do because one thing I'm terribly afraid of is losing all content or the Xbox not booting after update...

You need to find out what kind of mod you have it wold help the folks here help you.
Do you have a 007 splinter cell or mech assult save or saves with a yellow ovel and AR on it.
If so it might be a soft mod.
Or when you fire up the xbox can you see a blue led light comeing from the left side vints or can you tell if the box has been opend if so it may be a mod chip.
When you have a chip you can install and set up apps in ways you cant with a softmod and vice versa.
If you can fill me in on the mod your running i can help you get things updated.

Thanks, I'll try to find out what chip/softmod its got... It has been opened, got 120 gig hard drive and had dvd drive replaced.

Done a bit of research and my kernel version is 1.0.4976.2, according to UnleashX it's 1.1b, according to Geuex XBox Version 1.2/1.3, on loading MS Dash gives me error 21 and details from superfro, but I don't know whether that means it's a chip or softmod... Any advice much appreciated!

If you have XBMC on your xbox boot that its the dash i use and know the most about other dashes might have the same thing but i dont know whare to find it.
After you get xbmc up go to the power button in the bottem right corner click it to bring up the system info, power off,restart screen go to system info then hardware look for chip info, if this is disabled look at chip bios detection what do thay say if anything.

Congrats your useing an X2 chip join the club.
You are safe to update away ms dash, and all dashs can be updated no prob.
I wold still as a precaution install select-x and set it up to launch a default and launch one other dash when you press a so if the default dash dose get mucked you can still launch the other dash and fix it.
This is a step you dont need but is nice to have just incase.

thanks!! installed all the apps, x-select, msdash, emulators... but when i go into msdash audio settings, it hangs! other menu options work, but not audio!

Might be a spot in your disc try getting the same ms dash from some other place reinstall it and see if it still hangs .
