Okay I know you can copy Xbox games to your Hard Disk Drive, but is it possible to copy movies to your Hard Disk Drive. Like you would put in any movie thats on a DVD into your Xbox and you could copy it over and watch it whenever you want? Are there any programs for this? Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure if you can copy a DVD movie directly to your Xbox, but you can rip it to Divx on your PC, then copy the Divx file over to your Xbox. As an added bonus, the Divx file will be much smaller than the 4+GB the direct DVD rip would have been and with very little loss of quality with the right settings. Yeh, go and read up on DIVX and XVID. They are extremely powerful codecs when it comes to compression (filesizes)..

Most divx, xvid video files come with a .avi extension in windows.

I used to use a program years ago called DVD2AVI.. It used to backup my dvd movies to divx/xvid on my pc then i would ftp over to my xbox or just watch from the cd/dvd i burn them to.

You can backup your dvd originals to the xbox harddrive but you would need a huge harddrive to hold them.. Most dvd's are around 4gb alone. Big difference to the 700mb divx/xvid counterpart.

anyway, hope you get it sorted out.. You will love it.

Yep. Divx/Xvid are more efficient than standard DVD encoding which uses the much outdated mpeg-2 encoding (Divx and Xvid are based on mpeg-4). However, you can't stuff 4.3GB of information into a 700MB package without losing information, and where movies are concerned, information is visual quality. Both Divx and Xvid are very good at picking out and discarding the stuff you won't notice or don't need, especially with the correct settings. Try a movie or two, tinker with the settings, you might like what you see.

Yeah in the past I just used DVD Decrypter to rip my DVD's into one big .VOB file then I used PSP Video 9 to convert it to .mp4 format and I used Quicktime to play it (you can actually get pretty good quality if you do it at the highest settings). How does DIVX and XVID compare to this? And I'm still wondering can you rip the DVD to your Hard Disk Drive like with the Xbox games (I know it will be big I'm just wondering).

divx or xvid are excellent guys..

I have TV Episodes ripped form HDTV in DIVX format on my xbox and play them on a 129cm HD Plasma and it looks sweet.. Just adjust the bitrate and do a two pass encode if you really want to be sure to have a good quality picture.
