Lol.
I honestly didnt do anything out of the ordinary. I'm not gonna fret over it because the xbox eas given to me with "dead controller ports" which worked fine after all. I just added a $9 chip. If I get it to work, hooray, if not, no biggie. I have a softmodded box that works great

if you get error 5 the xbox is trying to boot the M$ dash.
why is it booting the M$ dash?
probably because the chip is not seated correctly

The chip is seated fine. I re-soldered everything and it boots to the MS Dash with the chip on and with the chip off. I've put this project on hold for the time being anyway because I got my softmodded box to take a larger HDD finally

Well now, I'd have to say you lack a bios for it to boot and all, flashing the chip etc. If it's only booting M$ dash, then you need to put in something like Evox or Unleash and then ya know, have a boot file (.bin) for the chip to use to find where this new dash is.

I did add a new bios to the chip. I added Evox M8. It was booting up and working fine until I used Slayers 2.7 to add my new hard disk. It just locked up halfway thru the install and that was that.
I have a friend here in town that has more spare time than I do who's going to try to get it running for me.

Yep. 2 banks.
I'm just gonna let someone else fix it. He knows more about this stuff than I do. I'll stick to softmodding. That seems to work much better for me

I just wanted to add my two cents worth here: I ran into the same problems and fragged one hyperx totally. I finally downloaded the 1mb.evox.m8plus.fc.137 bios and that is the ONLY one that would upload via NETWORK only. I had to connect the xbox holding the hyperx down to boot into the chips flimsy bios then I chose the first option to flash over network, then I opened a browser to the reported address of the xbox, browsed for the correct bios(this is after many repeated attempts) I even tried with a disk. By chance the bios uploaded to the hyper x chip and finally shut down. I then rebooted the xbox and saw the evox logo in the corner. I then rebooted with the slayers 2.7 disk in the drive and used the option for a new hard drive(I put a wd 200 gig in ). I am trying the lego option to hold the chip down and I have a xbox that finally works. Took me a week of reading to figure out. The company I bought from was no help at all they just sell the chip...I first used a duo x on another xbox but I am terrible at soldering....
