You have hopefully seen that happen before. Please forgive my newbieness.
I did a softmod a few months ago using ndure through harddrive hotswap. It install UnleashX 0.28(something). Since then the DVD drive is constantly working and plenty of noise comes out of the box. The lights in the front panel are constantly orange and never turn green.
That did not bother me at the time cause I was able to load games and play. I am not using the Xbox so much for gaming since I got a PS3. Lately I wanted to install the XBMC application on the Xbox. I wanted to copy the app on a CD or DVD and copy them into the XBox drive (E:\XBMC). The Xbox with UnleashX does not recognize data CDs it says the drive is empty. When I put the app on a data DVD UnleashX recognizes a data DVD and the it freezes.
Is there something wrong with my DVD drive? Did something go wrong during the softmod? How can I fix the problem. Eventually how can I copy XBMC to the XBox.
I would rather install it without connecting my XBox to the network. IF that is not possible I need to buy long cat5 cables to run from the living room to the bedroom where I have the router.

Did you make just a data DVD/CD or did you burn an ISO file to the media?
The orange light is normal for the Ndure install.

I made a data CD and DVD no iso. The CD is not recognizable the DVD freezes the XBox. I have also tried bootable images using iso's for EvoX and UnleashX Deluxe Autoinstaller. Xbox will not boot from these and it will go straight to the UnleashX menu.

The latest news is that I was successful running the Delux Autoinstaller. I was able to upgrade UnleashX and install XBMC and other applications.
The excessive noise was because I had not screws the lid tightly. All that is fixed now but if you ask me, it is a loud console.
I have one last question. I still cannot see the file in a DVD or CD through file explorer. However when I put in a DVD with video (XviD) XBMC will play it even though it cannot browse the files.
My question is: Is it possible for file explorer to browse and render files on regularly burned medial like CDs and DVDs?

In the AID .pdf manual, near the end, you'll see a little table which shows which type of media works on each of the drives. Simply identify which drive you have, then check whether it supports that type of media.

See how you go from there.

So, looks like you better use some DVD-R's then, as they are the only thing which really works on that drive.
DVD +/- RW's aren't great, and most DVD+R's won't work. CD-R and CD-RW's are also not guaranteed to work, so looks like you don't have a great deal of choice there then, lol

I went out and bought DVD-R (Memorex). I burned a few files (video, images, folders) but the file explorer and the XMBC does not recognize any files on the DVD. This happens with both DVD+R and DVD-R. What am I doing wrong? The files are there. Why I cannot see them? What media do you use with the Sumsung Drive 605F.
