Hello all, I am a PC gamer and just picked up a broken xbox and fixed it.
Can I just put the linux installer onto the HDD through a PC (Take the HDD out of the xbox and plug in into a pc) without the need for the action replay thing?
The xbox is already opened because there was a disc stuck inside the tray so warrantee is already viod.

Unfortunatly it isnt that easy. The harddrive is locked and uses a different file system than the pc. The easiest way to do it is to either buy an action replay or make your own. If you want to make your own action replay all you need is an old USB cord and the controller thingy that hooks into the system. You cut the end off of the controller thingy that hooks int the controller and the end of the usb cord that goes to your pc. strip off the insulation and connect the wires by color. Theres one extra wire you dont need. Download the action replay software from the codemasters website. Then all you need is a memory card. Use the software to transfer the gamesave to the memory card. Thats all you need to do. transfer the gamesave exploit to your xbox and use whichever game you want to softmod. It sounds alot more complicated than it really is. It should take less then an hour to do all that and softmod the box. Lemme know if you have any problems with it. the breakaway connector that plugs into the system.... not sure what its called. Once its modded you can ftp to it. But not till its modded. _________________

Since I allready had an extra USB cable and a ton of extra controller breakaway connectors it cost me nothing to do. After this all you need is a memory card and the action replay software. Use the adapter to plug your controller with memory card into your USB on your pc and transfer the save to the card. Easy stuff. After you transfer the file you wont need to use this method again. All you need to do to transfer is FTP. Since you said you were a PC gamer another handy thing you can do with this adapter is use your xbox controller to play PC games. http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Mods/xbox_controller_to_pc_usb.htm This tutorial will help you do that.
