First of all can I say Hello and I love it how you have kept the old xbox alive by keeping these forums running. Most Xbox forums around now are all about 360 and I love it how you have made a brand new network for 360. Im a forum owner myself based on a wrestling network of forums and personally think the admin and mods have done and still are doing an amazing job here!
Okay so basically enough ass kissing and ill get to the point not too sure of the rules here but here goes nothing:
Im getting an xbox very soon, It is going to be a normal xbox no modchip or softmod etc, What I want to be able to do is softmod this xbox for it to be able to:
1. Play all my "legally" Backed up games.
2. Play all the great emulators and homebrew gear you have here.
3. be able to Stream from PC to Xbox and vice-versa (some sort of media center?)
4. In the future if I ever wanted xbox live will it still work with my xbox being softmodded?
5. Obviously to you guys im a "n00b" and havnt got a clue. I want the very best softmod with all the best features like the ones stated above! I want it to do everything!!! lol
Any help on what to do and maybe which softmod installer to choose? etc etc??
Thanks Barry

hi barry welcome to xbox hq let me say that all your xbox troubles/questions will be answerd here now as for the questions.
1) both softmods and hardmods(chip) let you play your legal game both by disc or hard drive.
2)both softmods and chip do this
3) you can stream with xbmc
4)to this point even softmods can let you KEEP the softmod while not getting banned from xbox live!!! so this means no more uninstalling thanks to sid 4 .
5)relax we were all noobs at one point , i highly recommend sid 4.0 while 4.0 and 4.5are simlir sid 4 has more safety features that to me and many users feel more "noob friendly" so sid 4.0 and 4.5 will both do all above its just personal prefresnse oh and pal users ( japan uk etc ) are a bit buggy with sid 4.0 but as far as ntsc ( usa canda etc) its ok . _________________ |FTP|Useful Links| softmod vs hardmod questions

okay maybe I wasnt quite finished.. lol
1. is there an autoinstaller for sid4.5?
2. Ive read about these different operating systems? is there a difference to them and which one is best for me with the info I stated in my first post?
3. I have a "classics" version of splinter cell, will this softmod my xbox okay ?
4. is there any other reason to have a headset other than using it for xbox live? (such as any homebrew apps etc?)
5. Really confused with xbox live im from UK and all I see now is 360 Live stuff. Is there any good deals for xbox live where you can point me in the right direction?
1. yes there is a SID 4.5 make sure you use the pal mod.
2. Yes there are differnt dashes like Xbox Media Center(which you can stream videos and music from your pc to your xbox), and you can also run linux on the xbox as well and windows 98.
3. Classics version? you mean Platinum or just the original?
4. you can use the headset with games the support it in system link games or kareoke games etc.... you dont really need live to use the head set as I have a head set but I have never been on XBL.
5. You can still play xbox live with the original xbox still, or there are free methods like Xlink Kai or XBConnnect. The only problem is if your xbox has been on XBL before and you upgraded the harddrive your xbox will get banned if you go back on. Hence the free methods.
6. You can only use the external harddrive as a big memory card and thats about it, you cant run anything thing from it like games and stuff. _________________

regarding number 2: so with my first post to this thread, does this sid4.5 come with an option of what OS to pick and if so which do I need to pick for it to do the things stated in my first post?
SID 4.5 just like the other SID's come with Evox dash and UnleashX dash, but that can be changed with the help of the Auto Installer Deluxe 3.10 which has all the dashes emulators and apps, http://www.aideluxe.com
Now im not sure about that game, I guess this would have to be tested, it could be like our platinum versions here in N.A.
Yes there are free methods, its not XBL, but you can use a modded xbox on there with out worrying about getting banned.
Heres the links for them http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/ and http://www.xbconnect.com/ _________________
