I've been using xbox-hq tutorials for installing a new hdd on my xbox. Forahobby help me out with my flash problem to my mod chip, but now I am stuck trying to figure out how to install evox on my pc's hdd so I can configure the evox.ini file. I have successfully ftp my xbox with flashfp and quix, also using the tutorial on IP my PC to the xbox to comunnicate.
So, I can get the the xbox's dash files, but I can not find any tutorial on how to do this step as the xbox-hq tutorial says.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks, cliffa

What special configuration are you trying to do with the .ini file? I have never had to touch one of those puppies.

Why don't you just use the autoinstaller we have and let it install and configure your menu structure.

The evox.ini file is located with all of the evox files. If you downloaded the evox dashboard and unzipped or unrar'ed it you shouldn't have any problems finding it in the mix of files.

Do me a favor and configure a signature with your set up. Take a look at mine, copy it and paste it into yours and change it to fit your specs. That way we know what we're dealing with and can better assist you.

Is there a specific reason why you want to FTP the dash files to your xbox instead of using the autoinstaller?

I would use the AI and then you can just FTP to the C drive of your xbox, FTP the evox.ini file to your PC and then make your changes, then FTP back to your xbox C drive and overwrite.

Let me know if you need more clarification.

Hello realmccloy,

No special configuration in the ini.file was intended. I was just trying to follow the tutorial "Installing a new Hard Drive in your Xbox" steps. In step 4 make a "evox install HD disk" I was trying to follow the instruction. Most likely I miss read the instructions. To be honest that would be great if I could just swap out the old xbox hdd and put in a new hdd. Then just use the autoinstaller on a CDRW to download Evox dashboards. Now I have a new problem all of the sudden I can not ftp to my xbox. I am using a crossover cable and flashFXP, but all of the sudden it will not connect. This rely sucks. All I,m trying to do is swap hdd and store my xbox games on the hard drive. Apparently I have a long ways to go.
Hey, I can use all the help I can get. Appreciate any help please.

Well, there are a few ways to get your HD configured, but the easiest is by using an autoinstaller. At one time, we didn't have an AI so we had to have tutorials to show people how to manually configure their evox and prepare the HD.

Go to our VIP download section and visit out dashboard/autoinstaller area. It's the Xbox-HQ 1.3 Autoinstaller made by DJB. It's super sweet!

It's already in an .ISO format, so all you have to do is burn the .ISO to a disk, pop it in your xbox and boot the disk up.

First you want to format your HD
Then you want to prepare your HD
Then, install your Dashboards. Microsoft and Evolution X. You will be installing the dash's to drive C.
Next install your applications. If you are putting in a larger HD then install the apps on F drive.
Lastly, lock the HD.

There is a manual available or, you can just post any questions that may come along. It's real easy to use. It does all the work for you.

Thanks for the reply realmccoy,

That makes a lot of sence, because I have been trying to do this mod and HD swap for over a month. Dame you guys are "BRILLIANT"! Just a couple more questions? I do beleave I still know how to format a new HD, but what do you mean prepare HD. When installing the Dashboards doesn't the autoinstaller put the ms and eovx in c drive for me (just clearifying). For a larger hard drive were do I get the apps and what are they for. Do I have to ftp or iso/burn in order to install apps on HD. I'm going to be using a Maxtor 120GB 7200rpm HD. I allredy have the autoinstaller burned to a CDRW. It worked great on the original xbox HD. Thanks for the help realmmcoy and if this is to much then please direct me to the manual location. WOW this is great!

Formatting creates the partitions. The autoinstaller does that in like three seconds or less.

Preparing the HD is preparing some folders on the drives according to your HD size.

Then, installing the apps will put the programs in the prepared folders for you.

The AI will install MS Dash and Evox in C for you, unless you specify different. You'll see what I mean when you put the disk in and boot it up. It's very self explanatory.

For your larger HD the apps are already on the AI. Apps are, Xbox Media Center, PxHDD loader, DVD2Xbox, Yamp, etc.... After you select format large HD it's going to make C,E,F,X,Y,Z folders/partitions...whatever you want to call them.

If you had a 160GB HD, there could be a G folder depending on what bios you used, but that is for another day Smile

When you select install apps, you want to install them on F drive. Your F drive will start out with about 108GB. I had a 120GB in a machine I just sold and it was awesome. Had over 35 xbox games, 10000 emulator games (roms), movies, Mp3's, tons of stuff!

Let me know if you have any more questions, that is what we are here for.

Oh yea...make that signature too please. Cuz if you have a newer 1.4, 1.5, or 1.6 after you install the MS Dash you may get an error 13 when you try to go to MS Dash with your chip turned off. If you plan on playing xbox live, that will be an issue. But, I have the very simple fix for you.

When we made the AI a certain file for some reason didn't update and we have it available for download. All you have to do is FTP it into your C folder and viola..it's fixed!

Just let me know...if I would have known what version xbox you had, I probably would have had you download the file already.

Ihave the same FTP connection issues too. I can fix mine by right clicking on "my network places" then click properties. Right click on the "local area connection" that you are connecting to the XBOX on, select "diasable". Wait about 5 seconds. Right click again to "enable"

Try to FTP again. Works everytime on mine

Hey realmccloy,

Formatting for the xbox. I have the autoinstaller, or do I just install the new HD in the xbox and then put the auto installer in the dvd drive? Is it that simple? On the dash I do know there is a format tab on it. I suspect that thats where I need to go or not.

I finally figured it out! I reread realmccloy's reply up above and installed AI on the new hard drive. Works great. Thanks for the help.
