Hi,

have recently modded my nephews xbox v1.4 with an Xecutor3 mod-chip.

also replaced the standard 8.4gb drive that was in it with a 30GB maxtor drive.

the drive works fine btw, but config reports that the drive isn't compatible with the Lock function, therefore I can't lock the drive. i know locking isn't needed per se.. but MS Dash will not boot if a drive isn't locked.

i'd like if possible to have the escape route of being able to disable the mod chip and boot normal if required, but it isn't possible..

is there any tweak or newer MS BIOS that can get around the drive lock function?

i can't afford to buy my nephew a new drive as i've just spent £60 on the xecuter3 chip + the xecuter3 pro switch bank.

If the drive is not compatible with the lock function I dont think there is anything you can do. you can still boot the msdash from the dashboard that you have installed as the default dash. The only reason you want to lock the hdd is so that you can play on xbox live.

ok thanks.. didn't think it was possible, but thought i'd best ask..

my nephew doesn't play on xbox live, so if that's the only real thing locking is needed for then i guess it's ok as it is.

if we ever decide to get him xbox live, then i'll just have to buy him a new hard drive that can be locked Smile

If you really need the drive to be locked, you may want to consider a different drive. Check the lockable HD database. It's somewhere on this site. It doesn't cover all drives out there, but there are quite a few popular drives mentioned.

The one good thing with locking your HD is if your chip fails you can still boot your xbox as long as you still have msdash installed.
