what is the point of the metal shielding on top of the xbox, i know the bottom one is probably used for grounding, but isnt the top one only holding in heat?? Justin

It is intended as a heat shield, but can be removed with no effect on your system.

the top is also intended to keep stray radio frequencys from messing with components of the xbox as well, as its not just a heat sheild lol

Thats why tuners in the t.v.'s got metal sheilding, to prevent outside interferences interuputing the signals.

the reason i wanted to take it off is, i put in a bigger fan and its fine with the lid off, but when i put the lid on it would always rub, and i couldnt find where, i took off the shielding and boom the culprit...
