im a major noobie so bear with me here please, i saw a buddy of mine with an xbox where he just put a game in and burned it onto his harddrive (i think). So....what all is required to mod my xbox? I know of the mod chip, but not sure what it does... like i said, a major noobie

hey, ok 1st off welcome to HQ!!! Now im going to go over with you the different ways of modding an xbox, theres a couple of ways the chip is the best way but the other ways will work almost exactly the same(depends on the chip features)
ok
1.Install a modchip-You can Solder or get a solderless adaptor where u just screw it in and connect the wires wich for a beginner would be the way to go!
2.Softmod-This requires NO chip. All you need is a certain game and an exploit for that game and a way to copy the gamesave to your xbox!(Link to a softmod tutorial should be in my sig)
If you do decide to go the way of the chip i would prefer an Xecuter 3, it's packed with lots of features such as: Changing the blubber and "XBOX" at startup colors, Bank naming, 2MB of flash memory, and alot more! _________________ Hotswap Tutorial|FTP Tutorial|HyperX Flashing Tutorial

alright thanks!!! so once i find out the version of my xbox id get the xecuter 3 install that. and then what, does everything just start working from there??? sorry to be a pest....thanks again though!

Almost. When you install the chip, you have a couple more steps:
Flash the X3 with the 3294 bios: this will give you massive control over almost all parts of the xbox
