Hi guys,

Am quite new to all this so please be patient Very Happy

I have had my 1.6 xbox modchipped and it is currently running fine ok but I have heard the evox bios I am using is not the best?

The only thing is that the person that modded the box for me never answers his phone anymore and I am desperate to find out the exact chip I have so I can go about flashing with the best bios possible.

I have the AID 1.04 that I have used to install Unleash x and other apps but bios checker says bios UNKNOWN.

Is there another method I can use?

Thanks in advance

Well it doesn't matter what chip you have (I think) for I have the cheapest chip ever (duo 2) and I am running the best and latest bios on it now. And reflashing it is cake too. you just FTP to the box and clear out your old bios(back it up) and put the new bios in there. Then edit your ini file to the strand of bios your going to be using (there is a list in the ini file and you will see a current: all the way near the bottom, replace it) Next you start up using the Evo X dash and in the settings there is a reflash. Bam reflash her and shes running the new bios.

Excuse my ignorance but where would I find the bios file? It is a bin file I assume? DO I have to use the evlution x dash to do this? IS the ini file you refer to the evox ini file for like dash configuration? Sorry for all the questions Smile)

No need to worry about the questions...we were all there before. Ok the file you will find in C drive. it will just be called bios. Now the ini file yup its the dash evox.ini file( I think, it maybe in the bios folder...take a look in both, the right one will have all the bios strands in it). And yes you would need the evo X...thats the simplest way to do it. There are others but this only takes maybe 10 mins max. you could just slap in the AID3 disc in and install it as a backup dash and start up useing it. then go back and delete the dash off.

Crumbs, I looked in C:\ and there is no bios there. This afternoon I formatted c: and e: and installed xbmc as main dash and apps to e: ..Does this mean I have wiped the bios backup anyways?

Wow I have never heard of formatting C drive before. Yes you lost that puppy. I would make a Bios folder in your C drive and then miss around in your dashes setting ( not FTPing just the tools and setting off the dash) and see if there isn't a back bios (may not be) If not...I don't know what to tell you????

Heh heh. I do it to my pc all the time and it seems happy enough. Christ have I got a lot to learn I know I was using the evox m8 bios so copying to the drive from the aid wont be to much of a problem anyway. Out of curiosity, which bios do you use?

I forget really, the funny thing is...I just change it to a new one a month ago...lol. But if you know then no sweat I would still try the same steps above. Make a bios folder and install a Evo-X, also did you install your XBM in E drive (much better that way) You can still do it with out iusses, plus reformating the HDD isn't a bad thing...you just need to FTP the whole C drive files over as back up......Are you still using your stock HDD??? If so then It really doesn't matter about the bios. but if your slapping a bigger HDD, I would change the bios. but the bios your running now is fine and great for what your doing with a stock HDD

the bios is stored on your chips flash memory, although it can be stored on your harddrive if you flashed from your harddrive and didn't delete the bin file afterwards. The bios you want to use depends on what chip your using and how much flash memory the modchip has. The X2 bios' are said to be the best, although I use m8_plus on one xbox and x2 on another. I notice no significant differences, other than the easy to tweak features of the X2. If it ain't broke, you really don't need to fix it, unless you really want to. The latest x2 bios is 5035 i believe.

Instructions on flashing the modchip vary slightly from chip to chip, so it's best to know what kind you have, and we'll get you on your way. Feel free to ask anything, because a chip flashed incorrectly can lead to major headaches.

If your not running a X3 chip, then the best bios(imo) that you can run is the X2 5035. It loads all of its settings from a .ini file sitting in the root of your E:\, so changing something is easy as editing the file, instead of reflashing the bios in the chip every time.

Ok go to the normal place and grab the bios you want and try that above and it will reboot your box...but I wouldn't even mess with it really. Its not going to do anything with speed for such...thats the IDE cable for that. If it were me, I would leave it alone, and get your XBMC up and running
