I'm in the process of buying the chips. It will be a little while, as I need a new soldering iron as well since mine broked.

Don't think I'll replace the processor anytime soon.

Why that? Shouldn't it just be a matter of pulling the one processor and dropping in the other, adding heat paste, and remounting the heatsink?

Or do you mean actually get one that you can replace it with?

mmm radio shack junk lol, you can get a soldering iron temperature controller and use a normal soldering iron, no need to get a overpriced kit.

Acctually I can tell you how to make a inexpensive one and its real simple to make too.

ATA133... HAH, i'll give you mine for 50 bucks! yeah, they improve performance by 70%!!!... on a windows machine... Seriously, that 30% claim is a gimmick. Are you gonna test it? I did. It failed. Miserably.

RAM? Upgrade it if you can solder and are a champ modder (manik, back away from the soldering gun...)

upgrading memory is basically getting a bigger sized harddrive.

I don't think i've EVER laughed so hard in my life. Thanks, bro. That was great...

manik wrote:
Upgrading the cpu requires installing more ram. Doesn't make a difference in gaming but improves the xbox as a pc. For example, linux is faster and stuff. Right now the xbox has 1 x 64MB ram chip in it. You can buy 4 more chips and solder them, increasing the ram to 4 x 64mb. So the total ram is 5 x 64 mb = 320 mb of ram!! You need to get yourself a copy of xbox repair guide (not pirated), and 4 ram chips which can be found here, solder iron, good solder skills.

I just laughed harder....

Manik, thank you for making my forum checking tasks so damned enjoyable, bro. Wow... My eyes are burning with tears right now. My hat's off to you ya Canuk.

So, what have we learned here today? RAM Upgrade? worth it (...... not a hard drive....) processor upgrade, go ahead and find it (... it's not RAM....) and ATA133, worthless.

Oh, wait... Blaze, what the hell were you talkin about?! lol.

not quite, there are only a few processors that are compatible with the xbox mobo. Google search and you'll find them

in some ways our friend Manik is correct HDD's are memory, they're virtual memory. But i think he meant physical and thats not correct.

First, yes, upgrading your cable can give you a slight performance inscrease, but it is negligable. The whole ATA100 thing comes from the fact that che same chip in the Xbox can be found on ATA100 standalone controllers. THis does not mean it is an ATA100 only controller chip. And Even if it was a single channel IDE controller only operates at the fastest speen of it's slowest component, so the DVD wiil hold the bus at ATA33 even if it were.
