I successfully removed the retail hard drive and installed a new segate 17 GB HDD. My first attempt failed with the maxtor drive which was said to be defective. I know its not a biggie but thanks to Greven who helped me out through the process.

if you have a modchip fitted it doesnt matter whether your hdd is lockable, well not unless you want to use XBOX LIVE...Im still am running my hdd unlocked and have been since day one.. lol
With a softmod your xbox hard drive must always be locked..
anyway, just giving some info for those who need it.

thanks forahobby. BTW guys, would a faster hard drive like a 10,000 RPM work with xbox? If it works, does it decrease the delay times (loading and stuff)? _________________
