i have a 40 gb hdd that i had working in my xbox , i formated it thru aid 3 and now i can get files back on it. i can hot swap the drive load linux and get to the menu with all the options, but it says my drive is unlocked but locking is enabled , rebuild a xbox hdd before rebooting because drive will re-lock on boot? am i screwed or what?it wont let me do anything after that .
i do have my eeprom in the eeprom folder on the linux disk but xboxhdm doesnt reconnize it?
i also have a second factory set xbox available if that helps.

Just take it easy man. Do this:
1. Format/Prepare HDD
2. Install whatever you require on it
3. Go to config magic and lock your HD if it is lockable _________________

Manik, just stop. Seriously, not everyone has a chip like you. Take a deeper look at the post? Why would he be using linux and xbhdm to upgrade his drive if he had a chip. He most likely has a softmod, and Config magic is NO USE to him if his drive is unlocked.
Russ, what you need to do is make sure ALL of the backup files created by the eeprom backup program are in your EEPROM folder on xbhdm. There should be 4 or 5. Then, to upgrade easily, make sure you're followin this tutorial to the last letter:
thanks for the response. the only file in eeprom folder is eeprom.bin ? any other options? i do have a second stock xbox if that will help.

If it says that it is unlocked in xboxhdm then your ok. You should choose option 1, and when prompted to, choose to build and xbox HDD from scratch.
This assume that you put a backup or the MS dash files in your C and/or E folders. If not, download the mdash files from my signature and reburn the dish(these files should be extracted to C). _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide

tried it it wont let me rebuid or anything?

after itr tells me that thge drive is unlocked by hotswapping , it says it is unlocked but locking is enabled , rebuild a xbox hd before rebooting as the drive will relock.
i try to rebuild it but nothing happens. btw there is nok partion on the hdd .i cant format it .
at this point i just want to use the harddrive in my pc, my pc bios reconizes it, but win xp doesnt.

i get to the main menu by hotswapping the 40gb hdd.i try hdunlock ,it then says :
"drive is UNLocked,but Locking is enabled,Rebuild a working xbox hd and that if i exit the drive will re-lock upon reboot."
when i type in the password it say using password and shows it .it also shows serial #,model security setting, ands so on . it shows security lock,drive isnt frozen and so on.
when i put in the factory xboxhd in i get error #6 ,the 40gb hdd was created from that drive .
