so i was following the tutorial @ http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-171.html and i misread step 21 and installed the dashboard from the main menu, did i just screw my xbox or can i install over that dashboard? i'm softmodding, i have no hardware chip installed. thanks

ok..so i got it to boot dashboard evox from aid, and i can boot dashboard from aid, but i can no longer turn on the xbox normally or w/ the tray open. i can only turn it on w/ splinter cell already in the drive. i'm really confused at this point..how much is vip access? the non vip tutorials have left me with more questions than answers.

You used AID, so you're safe. Just go uninstall dashboards -> uninstall from C drive -> point to whatever u dont need, Hit A, and AID will uninstall it _________________

VIP Access is $10 USD a year i think. Extremely worth it, I dont have it but surely someone who does will tell you how good it is. _________________

i decided to restore my M$ backup and now my xbox boots normally. i'm going to redo the tutorial, and pray. any suggestions or hints or advice or anything is appreciated. btw, my iso is from aid3.0 torrent, i installed dvd2xbox and the other apps that came w/ it and none of them showed in e-vox, also the e-vox installer came up with an error "." action: delete and never properly finished. umm..i'm sure this makes no sense but a reply would make me feel better.

evox is not that good, try using xbox media center, or unleash-x. The thing is u have to prepare the E drive, if you are using the normal hard drive that comes with xbox. To prepare it go to format / prepare hd -> prepare E. Then install all your xbox stuff in the folders that appear there, Apps, Games, Emulators, ... _________________

YEAH, i'll be making a donation soon..as of now i have xbmc loaded (big thanks manik), but there are a few things i still cannot do. i can't play dvds, yet i can watch avi/mp4 from a dvd-r. i can't play (or see) any mp3s that are on dvd-r's, but i think thats because of the filename length thing. and i'm having a bit of trouble keeping xbmc from freezing (randomly)..but ..other than that, it works great. i can't wait for friday, payday, i think this softmod hacking thing will be much more enjoyable once i have access to a larger amount of knowledge (and resources )

Well try this... FTP to your xbox, locate E:\CACHE and clear out whatever is in it. Also in your xbox you will see X:\, Y:\, and Z:\ , clear these out as well and load it back up and see if the problem is fixed, let me know... _________________
