Ok, I've searched this site, searched xbox-scene. Lots of information but after reading it all, I'm now more confused than when I started looking.

Here's the deal. I have a modded box with Xecuter modchip. All that went well. The AID auto install booted up fine and then my questions began.

My confusion comes from the many threads telling folks to install the dash to drive f:, etc. My box has a retail drive so I installed the EvoX dashboard to the E: drive. I don't have an F: drive. So, installing to E: worked but the xbox would boot up to the stantard MS dash.

Sooo, I deleted EvoX from E: and put it on C:. That works fine. EvoX comes up when I boot the Xbox. I then installed XBMC on E: but decided I'd rather have XBMC as my dash. I removed EvoX from C: and put XMBC on C:. That works fine except that it used just about all the HD space in that partition. I only had about 13MB of space free and after I started poking around the scripts in XMBC, that space is down to 2MB free.

I'm worried I'm about to screw something up by having XMBC on the C: drive.

Soooo, all that being said. What is the norm for retail HD users? Put everything on E: and leave C: alone? Is it ok to put a dashboard on CConfused
When I search on this, I find 20 different answers, some dating back years so I'm not sure if that advice is valid.

I'm thinking the safest thing to do may be to put EvoX on the C: drive and put XMBC as an application on E: since it seems to grow in size as you use it.

What i'd prefer is for XMBC come up upon boot-up but be stored on the E: drive. I'm worried about filling up that small C: partition.

Thanks for the help.

Carlos

1st things, first, dont go to xbox-scene.

Second, since you have a retail HD, then you put the evox dashboard on E, and the XBMC, in E://apps. It should be an application. What i dont understand is, how can you have filled up your HD, with XBMC and evox? Do you have games or something already saved to the HD? I have a stock HD, and about 4.8gb free for games to be ripped to the E://games.
You can put the evox dash files in C, but i reccomend in plain old E://.

So, yes it is alright to put everything on E. I have a retail HD too. You can put XBMC, and evox files on the C, but again, i recommend putting on xbox E://

If you have anymore questions post back Wink

Ok, lets get simple: What bios and what chip are you running? Cause that will make all the difference on how you set up your HDD.

And I assume you mean you filled your c:\ with xbmc, and not the whole drive.

The box is modded with the Xecuter 2.6ce chip. The bios is the Evox M8 v1.6 bios. Stock hard drive.

Sorry for the confusion, the C partition had about 12mb left after I first installed XBMC. After using some of the XBMC scripts, the 12mb went down to about 2mb.

You have a 2.6ce and your using Evox? Ouch Smile

I would reflash to use the x2 5035 bios. This will look for a config file in the root of E:\.

Follow these steps:

1) Download http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/download-file-1260.html and use it to generatea config file to boot xbmc off of your E:
2) drop in AID and launch the dvd
3) Format C and E
4) FTP into your xbox while within AID and put the 5035 bios in C:
Bios and the config file generated from step one in E:\
5) Install msdash to C
6) install xbmc to E
7) Go to the tools menu in AID
Cool Choose "BIOS Flashing Menu". This will bring you to Evox where you can flash your chip with a better bios

IF you have a programmer or have flashbios in your 2nd bank just flash that way instead of steps 7 and 8

hey, carlos, welcome to the HQ. Greven's advice is right on. Start your chip with bank two and reflash that puppy. Why? Have you noticed with EvoxM8+ that your menus run a bit slow, stuff seems chopy? or the system just might halt? the EvoX bios is like the EvoX dash. Dead and old. The Xecuter Bios was designed for greates compatibility with ALL chips, but most of all with the Xecuter series.

Once you get all that stuff sqared away, follow greven's advice. Oh, and Hoyas, that's the HARD way to make an app your dash. The easiest way is to install using AID, and if your BIOS allows, use one of the config programs for chips that's ON the AID disc.

We try to stop the outside linking, anyhow, because most of the information is already available here. And also, if you read Carlos' first post, he was losing space so quickly because his xbox is booting off C drive right now, which means his BIOS isn't properly configured. SOOOO, that's why XBMC was taking up so much space and leaving so little on the C drive.

Evox really is useless at this point. Why force the settings into the bios when you can use an easy to edit config file?

Guys, thanks for the helpful replies. I really appreciate it the feedback. I have one more question, however. If I format C: and E:, and reinstall both dashes, will I lose the Xbox live menu item in the MS dashboard? I'm already a Live user.

Carlos

If you format C and reboot without your chip on, i'll get a lovely error 21. No Dash. This means, you can't get on live anymore because you didn't re-install MSDASH 5960 before you rebooted with your chip off. This is easy to fix. But if you already have MSDash 5960, then don't format C.

You probably won't want to format E before you backup the UDATA and TDATA folders. These are your microsoft content folders, and they hold your Gamesaves and livedata (respectively) and sometimes share the load with each other. You erase those, you have to start back at the first level in Ninja Gaiden Black. And we all remember how hard the Twin Electric Eeel was, right? So save those folders, or else you might have to fight them again o.O.

Xecuter bios - "doesnt rox my box"

Man, I forsee many great debates between us. But for now, I'm leaving it alone. We can make another thread if you choose, just not here.

Greven, thanks for the advice. This worked like a champ. I did not format any of the drives to make sure I didn't lose anything.

I created the .ini file, changed it to look in the E: drive for xbmc.xbe and flashed the BIOS to 5035 using the AID Installer. Box now boots to XBMC on E: Smile
