It should read data discs no problem. If not, copy it to a disc, then pop it into your drive. Open up the file manager (press start, then extras, and file manager, if you're using XBMC360) and copy it anywhere on your hard drive. Ifyou experience any problems during playback (choppy video and such) press start and select video options, then uncheck the "use cache" option. Should speed things up nicely.
Also, if your xbox is on your network, and your movies/music/pictures are stored on your windows based machine, "Setup Home Networking" and just finish the wizard with "No thanks, I don't need to run the wizard on any other computers". What this does is enable file sharing. Just right click on your media folder, click properties, then the "Sharing Tab" and check the box that says "share this drive on the network".
Once that's done, go to "Videos" on XBMC, then select "Workgroup (SMB) Shares" You should see your computer name, click that, then select the folder and you'll see your media files. I remember sometimes when I have it on a disc for some reason it comes up as "myvideo.avi" where avi is not the extention but part of the file name......basically i would just double check it when burning or something and if you ftp it to your box possibly add .avi to the end of it if its just something like "stargate" and thats it. _________________ Xbox V1.6
