okay, i'm reading in a few places that you cant softmod a v1.6 box, which is what i'm almost certain i have. so can i softmod it or not? and is there anything different i have to do?

Buy whats called a mod chip. Youll get more use out of it, rather than softmodding.

i thought about it, but after chipping my ps2, only to have it die 2 weeks later(even completely replacing the motherboard didn't fix it.) i thought it'd be easier to just softmod it, so i dont have to worry about soldering, and (permanently) voiding my warranty.

Yes'm, but i dont think you can softmod a 1.6..

And softmodding is just as good if not better than chipping depending on the situation. Its less expensive, less chance of destroying the mobo/etc, and easier to do than a chip(again, this depends on several thing). _________________ Hotswap|HDD Upgrade|X3 Guide
