Buy whats called a mod chip. Youll get more use out of it, rather than softmodding.

i thought about it, but after chipping my ps2, only to have it die 2 weeks later(even completely replacing the motherboard didn't fix it.) i thought it'd be easier to just softmod it, so i dont have to worry about soldering, and (permanently) voiding my warranty.

the warranty is void if the software is altered as well.

And softmodding is just as good if not better than chipping depending on the situation. Its less expensive, less chance of destroying the mobo/etc, and easier to do than a chip(again, this depends on several thing).
